This is something I keep throwing around and wondered if any of you have had it before? It's more money than I thought it would be but my dental insurance is useless. If you used it, did you like it? Any pros or cons? Would you do it again?
Well no, but my mom recently did. She's needed braces her whole life but never got them. Overall she liked them. She was really good about taking them out when you're supposed to and brushing after every meal. It took her a couple fittings longer than anticipated to get to her final positions, but I know overall she's very happy--just kind of higher price and high maintenance but I KNOW she thinks it was worth it. GL in you decision!

I had them a few years ago. I had braces in middle school but didn't wear my retainer like I was supposed to and had to have them straightened again. Overall I was happy with the result. It didn't work as well as traditional braces, but it was good enough. Unfortunately my teeth have already moved three years later even though I've worn the retainers as instructed and still do. The problem is they stretch out over time. Also, I had to have them replaced after two years because they cracked and it cost $400.

I'm currently waiting for my first set of aligners. It was only $200 more than traditional braces through my ortho, though at a consult I had with a different ortho it was 2k+more. I suggest shopping around. My ortho said she's seen really good results as long as patients wear the aligners like advised.
My husband did it and so did my SIL and were both very happy with the results. Like anything, if you are diligent and going to wear the aligners all re time it will work for you. If you don't wear the retainers afterward your teeth are likely to shift back. I am a bad retainer wearer so I had a permanent lingual bar placed behind my bottom 6 front teeth so they don't shift and that works for me.

@chatterbox Did you do anything to deal with sharp edges of the aligners cutting into your lips/tongue? Did your lips eventually just adjust? I just got my first set of aligners. I can feel my teeth moving and it's a little painful but not totally unbearable but the cuts from the edges are killing me!

lattelady5 I don't recall having any cuts. Maybe they aren't fitted properly and your orthodontist could file them down in spots? Also, when do you switch to a new set? I always did it before bed and by the morning the pain usually wasn't bad.

I just googled it and getting them filed down was suggested. I may call and try to get in early next week. They're just super sharp on my bottom inside front and top outside front and are shredding my lips/gums. I'm going to have to go back anyway because I had those chewy things in my pocket and lost them somewhere.
I got them yesterday morning and wore them all day and night. They also suggested switching at night and in the future I will do that for sure. By late afternoon my teeth were killing me. I took tylenol last night and that helped substantially.

Ouch! Maybe you could go buy some wax in the meantime. I think they would sell it at the drug store, but I'm not positive. Good luck! It will be worth it
