I eat about 10 glasses of ice per day. Recently I noticed that they changed the ice at Costco and it is softer and crushes perfectly when bitten. It has a different texture than the crushed or cubed ice my fridge makes. If I could find it, I'd buy an ice maker that produces this ice. Does anyone know where I could find this or what it is called? I know this is bizarre, but I really love ice.
My office has ice just like that and I believe this is the ice dispenser. I won't be in the office for a month or two, but I could check if this is it when I'm there if you'd like!

I was a bit anemic in the past but am not actually sure if I've been tested recently. I'm going to ask next week. That's a really interesting thought and I think you might be on to something.
I had no idea an ice machine would be so expensive.

I know my doctor tested when I got pregnant and had to do bloodwork - yours probably did too! Definitely ask though
Me either! I'm sure there is a cheaper version somewhere.
i eat so much ice. i probably am anemic. i know my iron levels weren't great when i was pregnant and i doubt they've improved significantly.
the l/d ward at my hospital had THE BEST ice machine, exactly like you described. a year later and i still think about that ice. it was the highlight of labour, lol.

Sonic has the tube like ice thats similar to Costco ice. And you can buy it by the bag The costco one is a Tubular Nugget and the Sonic one is a crushed nugget.
If you have a few extra thousand to spend you can buy one online.

I've never been to Sonic. I don't think we have them here, which is unfortunate. I'd buy bags worth at a time!

I was just going to say the same thing as countthestars I craved ice when I was pregnant the last time, and then found out I was anemic. I have to take an iron pill each day, and ever since I started doing that, I have lost the craving. I still enjoy crushed ice though, but I don't crave it like a mad woman anymore.
Definitely get your iron levels checked. Eating 10 cups of ice a day is probably a warning sign. Chewing on ice is really bad for your teeth too, so you may want to make sure you get your teeth checked out.
Are you anemic? Ice addiction is actually very common among people who are anemic.

definitely get checked. it's common in pregnancy, esp with the IBD. I was straight up addicted when I was anemic, so I totally understand your texture preferences. now that my hgb is normal ice has returned to just being ice.
Ice was my only pregnancy craving and I was testing twice for anemia but levels were normal. I know exactly what kind of ice you're talking about Andy is delicious! My hospital had the same kind and it was amazing lol. i joked with my husband that I wanted a new refrigerator that dispensed that sonic ice!
Yes, it is "Sonic ice." You want a machine by Scotsman Ice Systems. We have one at my office, and the ice is just like at Sonic. I think Sonic actually uses Scotsman machines. I am pretty sure they make a residential unit.
Braums also sells similar ice. We buy the ice at Braums or Sonic and fill the ice dispenser in the beer fridge in the garage so we have good ice for drinks. My B & SIL put in one of the ice makers when they remodeled last year and they bring me a cooler full of ice when they come over.
omg! how do you keep running around?! I was exhausted when my hgb was much higher than that.
what's the plan for treatment? I tried oral iron pills for a year but couldn't absorb them (hindsight - major crohn's flaring!)
iron infusions made me feel human again.
They called in an RX, but I haven't picked it up yet. I have weekly appointments now so I'm going to ask on Friday about the infusions.
Just FYI, my bloodwork came back as anemic at a recent physical, and I started taking iron pills. I got the chelated ones, which are supposed to be easier on your stomach. Ouch, they really are not -- the first weekend I thought I had food poisoning the stomach cramps were so bad! They did get better, though.

I was recently in the hospital for surgery and they had that kind of ice. SO good. Oh, and in addition to my primary issue I was anemic...maybe that is why I enjoyed it so much? My level was a 6 and I had to have a blood transfusion and b12 shots. Plus I am allergic to iron supplements so bonus, I get to change all my eating habits! (BOO)
