QOTD: a preview for a movie came on last night and my first thought was "That would make a great book! I wonder if this movie is an adaptation...." Have you ever seen a movie or preview and thought it would be better as a book?
I am sill reading The Death Cure, I hope to get enough time to finish this weekend. I will need to read my book club book before finishing the Maze Runner series. But, I have been enjoying it.
QOTW: Books are so often better than movies, I'm sure I have thought it. Though nothing comes to mind. Then again the beauty of a movie is the quick reward - so much faster than reading a book.
I'll bet you're right. It was an I terest no concept, but we couldn't get through the movie. I think it was all the close ups of Joaquin's goofy face that did it for me (normally I think he's hot, but he was just so...not in that movie!)
The preview I saw that made me think of this was for The Woman in Gold (or something like that). Woman's relentless quest to retrieve famous painting of her aunt stolen by Nazis. The movie looked slow, though.
I just started The Sasquatch Hunter's Almanac. Too soon to tell for sure but I think I like it.
QOTW: I can't think of anything recent. When I was middle school aged or a little younger, I remember seeing some movie and then buying the novelization of it. Even then I recall being disappointed by the quality of writing -- whatever it was could have been a great book.
I am reading Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. I like it so far.
QOTW: I was thinking this when I saw the previews at Cinderella yesterday. In particular the new Peter Pan prequel movie and Tomorrowland. Both could make great books for my grade school kids. They actually could be based on books. I have no idea.
I think the worst ones are the Disney books based on the movies. I used to hate reading Cars and Toy Story to my kid. They are scene for scene the same, and they're like 30 pages long, which is far too long for a bedtime story IMO - lol.
I'm finally done with the Dark Tower series, and now I'm reading Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews and The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri.
This is my first time reading Flowers, but I know the basic plot points and so far all I have to say is, WTF, these people are terrible, and totally setting these kids up to fail. Is this book popular because it's so polarizing?
I'm not really enjoying The Lowland. It's moving very slowly, which I expected because that's how The Namesake was, but so far the story isn't as compelling or as interesting to me as Namesake was.
I think Downton Abbey would make a good series of books.
Where is dorothyinAus? Hope you don't mind I started the thread, chica.
Not at all. I usually start it because I get Friday while it's still Thursday for most posters, but it's okay. I've given up being online between 9am & 5pm for Lent, and am trying to limit my online time outside of that period so I'm only here occasionally, at leafs until Easter.

I'm reading The Orchid Affair and am enjoying it, particularly now that I have hit a good groove in the book and in reading in general.
QOTW: I've seen several movies that may actually be books and I just don't know it, but I thought they would work equally well as books. A Walk in the Clouds is one. I saw The Hundred-Foot Journey on the cruise in January and thought that would work well as book. (Like I said, they may be books I just don't know it.)
I'm back to reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix since I finished Written in My Own Heart's Blood. Too much work going on to be concentrating on something new.

There's a new movie coming out called the Age of Adaline about a woman who is immortal. It look interesting but it stars Blake Lively and I am not sure I can take her seriously. I was hoping it was based on a book but no such luck.
I'm currently reading Our Endless Numbered Days and really enjoying it.

This same exact thing happened to me. It was The Panic Room. I loved the movie and saw the book and got so excited. It was terrible. I didn't get very far before I actually returned it for a refund. That was my first exposure to a novelization of a movie. Horrible. Just horrible.
