I'm in Zone 8b (north of Houston). I have a SE facing brick wall that receives a lot of shade due to the position of our house and a small overhang. The rest of the garden bed gets full afternoon sun. I am planting a Mexican Plum tree in the bed, so the brick wall will receive even more shade as the tree grows. I'd like to grow a flowering vine on that wall. I was thinking about schizophragma integrifolium (the moonlight one). The schizophragma integrifolium is a stunning vine, a bit more hardy than climbing hydrangeas, my research tells me it does well in shade, but it is very slow growing and will require more water than my Mexican plum. I don't mind giving it extra water, but I'm worried that maybe these two plants won't do well in a bed together.
Does anyone have any experience with this vine, or a better vine suggestion?
