I spent a good amount of time yesterday cleaning my bathroom. But I can NEVER get the grout in between the tiles in the shower clean. We have very hard water so they turn sort of orangy or will go right to mildewy. (Getting a water softner is out of the question as I hope to put to the house up for sale next year). For the tiles I usually use Zep which is some strong stuff but works great for soap scum and the tub but I still can't get the grout clean. I've tried using a bleach/toothbrush which works for a like a week, magic eraser/scrubbing bubbles which is fine for a week but is there anything else I could use? Obviously I'm not opposed to using chemicals. I never seem to get it completely clean.
I'm thinking we might need to regrout the entire shower but that's going to take a good amount of work and makes a good fall/winter project since now we're focusing on the outside yard work.

My H attached a soft bristle brush to the drill and cleans the shower grount in under two mintues. We use a cleaner that is safe for natural stone. Reseal ever six months. High iron water sucks for tubs and showers. I feel your pain.
You need to seal. Which sucks, because you can't use the shower for a few days, but it will work.
Bleach will strip away the sealant and eventually eat at the grout. It works great, but if you seal, it will keep the grout looking nice for a long time. I haven't had to bleach my grout in a year (knock on wood), just remove the soap scum, which doesn't discolor it, because the sealant is still good. I should do it again soon, though.

share with me what sort of bristle brush? I'm due for a deep clean and resealing of the grout in our master.
Barkeeper's Friend - we have hard water, too, and it'll clean it for sure!
I have barkeepers friend in the powder form that we used on our kitchen sink. I might have to make a small paste and scrub with a toothbrush. I completely forgot about barkeepers.
