I know this can vary from person to person, but just wanted to see what it's like for you guys!
If you temp and take OPKs, what's your timeline usually like?
I tend to get a positive either the day before or the same day that I have the temp drop. FF keeps assigning the temp drop day as O day. Just wondering for timing purposes.

Ovulation is usually around cd17-19 and lp is 11 days.
Previously, I had two positive opks, negative and then ovulation. This cycle I had almost. positive, positive and ovulation.
I don't get a temp drop.
After ovulation, progesterone is secreted by the leftover part of the ovary that held the egg. The opk detects a hormone that surges before potential ovulation. If the positive opk and ovulation are the same day, you could be detecting the tail end of the lh surge.
july, that's what I'm trying to figure out - FF is saying O day is the day of the temp drop, and I'm wondering if that's correct, or it's the day of the temp spike.
callmehales, what do you think? You're a charting guru in my eyes.

I only started using an OPK this past month and noticed that I had a temp drop the day I got my + and but then FF put O at the next day based on my temp rise. I found that interesting since previously, I always got cross hairs on the temp drop day.

Yes!! That's what's making me go Huh? I'm sure that I used to get cross hairs on the temp ride day.

temp drop is your O-day. the hormones that make you O also make your temps rise, so they don't go up until after.
FF doesn't put crosshairs until you've had 3 days of WHAT THEY CONSIDER high temps. and it can move it around, because really it doesn't know anything for sure.
for example, i triggered last monday, and KNOW i ovulated because the US showed it friday. but i had a temp dip like 2DPO in there, so FF never gave me crosshairs.
for me, i got a +OPK usually the day before and the day of O. some people get a shorter surge, some people get a surge and don't O until a day later.

This is what I've always thought - so that is why I was left wondering why FF would ignore the temp drop (the same day I got my + OPK) and move the crosshairs and assign O to the next day. They need to fix their algorithm.

i've had FF change my O day THREE TIMES in the span of my 12 day LP. it's super annoying.

I can see why people don't stick to temping and only go by OPKs. It's really frustrating.
Thank you, callmehales! Makes a lot of sense. I am lazy (and drink waaaay too much water to hold it for a few hours), so I only do OPKs with FMU. Perhaps if I'd done a 10am or afternoon/evening one on Friday, I would have seen a positive before the one on Saturday morning.

yeah, except OPKs won't actually tell you if you ovulate. only temping will.
i just learned what my cycles normally look like, so when FF would change things i'd know it probably wasn't right.
Yep, which is why I only charted until this past month. I figured more data might be helpful, but it confused things.
I forget who it was, but there was a post a month or two ago when a poster said their doctor said temping was pointless. I didn't understand that at all.

ditto.
i did stop after 4 days or so after my trigger, because i didn't want to obsess. but i'll start back temping on CD1 (which hopefully doesn't show!)

I don't think I posted that here, but I've had more than one doctor tell me not to bother. I get the impression that it's because it can be confusing for some people? and maybe using opks is almost as good. My most recent doc also said something like "why add all that stress to the process?" I don't know. My charts have always been easy to interpret, and I feel like I stress less when I know what my body is doing.
mpc - Yea, I can see how it can be confusing for some people and that it takes a while to really start to understand your patterns and what's going on. I don't think it adds stress - but I like to analyze data, so there is that. I feel like that knowledge is power. If you don't sleep well, have consistent wake times, etc. it can be hard.
So really, like everything else in life, if it works for you - great! If not, there are always OPKs.
I usually get 2-3 +OPK days followed by O. I haven't paid attention to a temp dip on O day but will now. I need to go back and look at past charts.
I use FMU and then test again after work (about 5:00) with OPKs. I drink a ton of water too Mushe and usually can tell with holding my urine for an hour or so if the OPK is dark or not.
Oh, as for charting I can't imagine not doing it at this point. I didn't chart in November just to see how it felt and I was a crazy person not knowing exactly what was going on. Plus, my midwife likes charting so I'm glad I've kept it up.

You were probably on the tail end of the LH surge if you test in the morning. Then you ovulated that day or in the middle of the night. When you ovulated, that caused progesterone to be secreted by the corpus luteum, which results in the temperature rise. The next morning, you saw the temperature go up.
Some people test twice in a day if they have a short lh surge.
I found temping and opks to be the best together. Opks tell me when to predict ovulation and temping tells me when it happens. I never found it stressful. I wake up most morning around the same time. Even on the weekends, the difference is not that much. Opks are more stressful to me because I have to remember to do it every afternoon. I squally forget.
Temping made me realize I drink too much I have to throw out half my temps because I had a drink the night before!
LOL! I have been drinking more than usual, but usually no more than a drink a night. I just keep them, and have been able to see the shift so far anyway.

i doubt ONE drink would do anything to your BBT by the morning!
I eventually had to start counting them if it was only one drink since otherwise I would have no chart to speak of. Like I said - it was eye opening, lol.
