I've heard this phrase for many many years, mostly by older people.
Where are you from? Maybe it's a regional thing? I've never heard this phrase, and apparently, I'm not observant, and I've never noticed it here!
I'm a military brat so I don't really have a home but I've been on the east coast for the past 15 years.
I'm on my phone so can't tag anyone but maybe call a black person meeting and ask others cause it's def a phrase that's been in my family and social circle for as long as I can remember.

Same. I heard it most when I lived on the East Coast.
