We close on our house in a week. And I'm stumped as to how to decorate the master bedroom.
The carpeting was replaced recently and it's hideous, but we're not at a place to redo it right now. So the master has forest green carpeting.
We have a king sized bed that I went and bought white bedding for. What color would you paint the walls? Dressers? Right now our dressers are black but I've been itching to paint them.
We saw the carpeting at night and I was convinced it was dark grey, but alas it's DEFINITELY dark green.
ETA: the room is about 15x15 and has white trim, 2 windows on one wall.
I'd probably do something in a very light mocha-grey shade, keep the trim white, with your white bedding, and do the furniture either in white, or like a sort of distressed looking white/grey (as opposed to shiny white, if that makes any sense).
Seriously, I would look at remnants/super good deals and reconsider recarpeting. If you can at all swing it, better to put in something neutral now than mess with it in a couple years after your stuff is all in. It probably seems like a lot now, but it would be totally worth it in the long run just to have it done if you can get a great deal. I'd explore all carpeting options first!
I didn't want to redo the carpet because the kids carpet is ugly too. And my cat has this history of peeing on carpets so I'd rather let him adjust to the house and pee on ugly carpet because no matter how many times i clean it, there are spots i can't get the stink out of.
Also, the downstairs is this awful laminate flooring, looks like fake hardwood in this orangey oak color. DS2 is still using a walker so I figured for the next couple of years I'd let him rough up the ugly floor and then rip it all out and the carpets and put in hardwood flooring.
ETA: The owner replaced the carpet about 2 years ago and has barely lived in it since then. He moved into the main floor because he was getting older so this carpet is practically brand new.
Any chance you could put an area rug down in your room? Lessen the amount you see?
That's what I'm thinking. Something w/ multiple colors so that it might even pick up a bit of green around the edge but will mostly cover it?
Then you can pull from that rug for the paint, curtains, etc.
The remnant idea is great, there is definitely plenty of 15x15 pieces out there. I know yall have heard me say this before, but pay cash and offer them less. Most places will give a cash discount. If you get an area rug, I just saw that they make a carpet pad for area rugs on carpet. To keep them from bunching up. I had no idea these existed. Go with a cool grey color for the walls, maybe it will pull out some of that grey you originally saw I'm the carpet. We used Benjamin Moore Whitestone.
I plan on white washing our next home. I don't know why I ever likes color.
Our last house was all white walls and bright white baseboards and crown molding and we got lots of compliments. I loved it made our house so bright and airy also we don't overload our walls and I am anti clutter so that made more of an impact.

I would avoid putting cheap carpet in your house and would keep what's there until you're at a place where you can replace it with something you love. We recarpeted our house when we bought it in 09 with very inexpensive carpet from a remnant warehouse type of place, and it has held up TERRIBLY. Since yours is essentially new, I'd leave it and do a large area rug like PP said.
