This is our first house. We bought I thinking we would sell/upgrade in 5-7 years, although it could fit our life for longer. We've been here 1.5 years and are already talking about moving because we know more about what we want now and because the seller's market is great right now.
We were in our "forever home" for 18 years. Then oops!, job change. Otherwise we'd still be in that house. Damn I miss it sometimes. We designed what we thought was perfection.
I think the expression is -- Life is what happens while you're making other plans.

We are probably lifers. Moved here in 97, bought it from my mom after renting from her once she moved in 05. We are here for at least 2 years since dd's high school is one of the best. Dh works with our next door neighbor so he rides with him to work. Our neighbors have pretty much all been here before I moved in or at least 10 years so we do borrow groceries and help each other fix things. I can deal with my hour + commute as long as we have such a great home life.
We've been here for 9 years. Our plan at least mine is to fix it up to sell before dd goes to middle school because the school she's assigned to isn't ideal.
I'm hoping the value goes up. When the crash happened, our assessment took a dive.

We bought this house as our forever home. I expect us to be here until we can no longer handle the stairs.
I also thought that about the house I bought with XH. Seeing as I still have co-ownership with him (bought it right before the big downturn), that could still be the case. Blech.
Well, we are making changes to our house that work for us but won't attract buyers. Every time someone tries to talk us out of it, we tell them that will be DSs' problem. They'll have to sell it because I'm staying here forever.
Also, my step-sister lives a mile in one direction, my brother 1/2 mile in the other direction, my parents are 20 minutes away, our neighbors have pretty much adopted my kids, and our commutes are usually less than 10 minutes. Oh, and we are likely priced out of our current neighborhood. So, yeah. Not leaving.
We stayed a little less than 3 years in our first home. We moved for DH's job. Our currently house, I'm hoping we'll be ready to move by year 5. We'll certainly be outgrowing it by then.
We don't think this is our forever city, but as long as we're here, we'll be in this house. Maybe another couple of years?
This is us, too. We've been here for two years and are thinking of moving across the country in 2-3 years. We love our house so I wouldn't move within the city.

The first condo we bought we were in less than a year when we sold due to a job transfer. Second house, we made it to almost exactly 3 years. We're in year 3 on our 3rd house and hoping H gets the promotion he needs in the local area or on the road again we go.
I said 5-10 years at first, H said 10. However, with his job, we have a real opportunity to move around the world & travel, so it'll probably be less than 10 (we're on year 3).
We planned on our current house being a 5-10year house. This month makes seven years here and we'll probably put it on the market in about two years. Sooner if we decided to move to San Francisco (eeeeeeekkkK!!!!!)
When we bought our townhouse, it was with about 5 years in mind, long enough to have one kid, but probably move before the second. We got pregnant earlier than planned (surprise!) so we were only there for 3 years.
I plan to be in our current house forever, as long as we stay in the area and we don't have plans to look elsewhere at the moment.

Whenever we buy, the intention is to not move after that. I feel much more shackled to the thought of a house than I did kids. This is also why we're trying to look for towns with good school systems, walkability, etc. This is all still 5ish years away though.
I was hoping this was a 5 year house. Except we bought in 2008 and the market could apparently actually go lower. And we don't really have the cash flow to sell and buy bigger in my mind (although people do it with less, so I guess I'm just conservative). Next month will be 7 years, eesh.
So now we're fixing up what we can and I'm working really hard to not hate my house. I want something better laid out with more usable space. DH probably thinks we're in this house forever, lol. We have a huge shed and he swears he could never move and leave it behind.
We plan to stay in our house until our son graduates from high school. At that point we will sell if we are able to, but I guess it will depend on the market. It won't be paid off at that point so we'll have to see. I love my house, but I can't wait until we can move into a condo or something with no yard/typical house maintenance.
