Last year (31) MH surprised me with reservations to an Atlantic City restaurant I really wanted to try. Reservations are hard to get so he called far in advance. We took our time driving down the shore to get there ... we stopped in Seaside Heights but it was October so a lot of things were closed for the season.
For my 30th we met with four friends for dinner. They gave me a nice handbag.
ETA: I remembered some others ... on my 16th birthday my mom gave me $50 and told me to invite a few girlfriends out for pizza. I didn't have a lot of friends in high school and that was when I first started becoming friendly with people, so I was happy that they agreed to come.
Then when I was 17, I had two small groups of friends who each wanted to take me out, so they agreed to alternate days. One group included a girl who was a year older and had come home from college to hang out with me. The funny thing is that both groups took me to the same local restaurant as a surprise.
(why do all my stories involve food? lol)
The first birthday after our dad died, my brother sent a nice floral arrangement to my house for my 29th birthday.
I got an e-ring for my 24th birthday. Calvin specifically gave it to me for my bday because we both took the mat law class in law school and learned that you should never give an e-ring for an occasion, because then it could be considered a [birthday, etc.] gift rather than a gift in contemplation of marriage. You can ask for a gift in contemplation of marriage to be returned if the marriage doesn't happen, but a diamond ring for a birthday? Good luck with that. So that was kind of cute. Obviously we got married, so it was a moot point.
I spent my 33rd birthday in Hawaii. That was pretty good too.

My 28th birthday was the day of '09 season NFL Championship game where the Saints beat the Vikings and went to the Superbowl (which they won) for the first time in franchise history. I was at a bar in NOLA and the whole city was alive that night. I have a picture of me and about 12 of my BFF's in the street holding up champagne bottles and just looking young and happy. Still makes me smile!

DH and I went out of town for the night for my last birthday, went to wonderful restaurants for dinner one night and brunch the next morning. We were in the middle of a move and it was nice to get away from everything.
eta - my bachelorette party was on my 29th bday, that was another really good birthday!
My 21st birthday was amazing. I was studying abroad that semester, so my roommates (who became very good friends - 13 years later we are still close) and I went to Munich. We celebrated my birthday at the Hofbrauhaus. We met so many fun people and had a blast. We had to literally run out to get to the train station (drunk) and make our train to Prague. The best birthday!!
I've had many other good birthdays, but that was the most memorable.
H flew in my sisters and BFF for my 40th birthday. We were supposed to go to Mt Rushmore but the weather cancelled those plans. We had an amazing weekend exploring CO instead.
My 25th birthday. We never celebrate birthdays but we picked up our new car and planned out a road trip. We were in France that day. The weather was perfect for top down driving. We sat outside for lunch and had a beautiful view of the Alps. It's the little things for me I guess.
My 9th birthday was the last one my mom gave me a gift. We don't do gifts so this was special when she surprised me with it....wrapped! It was barbie in a blue birthday dress. I kept it for over 20 years then my parents moved and they packed up my old bed room. I have no clue where is at now.

I graduated H.S. the day after my 17th birthday - that was pretty awesome...Freedom. Except I wasn't 18, so no freedom?
My 24th birthday my now H and I were on our fist big trip together while dating. We had just started backpacking Europe for 30 days and were rained out in a pub in Munich. It was low key and lovely.
My 29th birthday I had just started a new job in Seattle and it would be the first time in years I couldn't go home to Alaska. My parents sent me a giant arrangement of flowers to work. They knew the shitty job I had. I made birthday plans for everyone else and I would be left out. And I was.
I hated all birthdays from 2000 - 2003, ex-H was and I shared a birthday and he was an attention whore.
All through college my bday was over spring break. So since my friends and I were going out anyways, it was always a week of celebrating. My family has also always made my bday special - party, cake, gifts - which I love.
But I think last year, my 30th, was the best. H felt bad that we went on vacation for his 30th but couldn't for mine since DS was so young so he made it extra special. He made me a slideshow from DS that we watched all day and showed to about 30 people at my party (poor fam and friends who had to watch the 10 minutes slide show on loop all day!). It was just so nice as an exhausted new mom to feel so loved. I also got the double string Tiffany Beads necklace from H which I absolutely love and matching earrings from my mom. I wear the earrings pretty much every day.
I don't care if it's selfish but I don't want to share a birthday. I just saw a story on the news that a woman gave birth to 3 boys on the same day but 3 years in a row and I was irrationally annoyed about having to share a birthday with 2 siblings.
LOL this is my mom's family only my aunt is exactly a year older than my mom and her twin brother. They always had a three tiered cake. One chocolate layer, one vanilla layer and one swirl.

My 21st and 24th (this past birthday)!
My 21st was beginning to be a disaster when my cousins from dc surprised me and came up for it! I ended up having a little party and great dinner with my family and friends and it was so great. It was also my last birthday with my aunt who was like a mother is it's memorable in that regard.
My last birthday, my bf and I went up to Niagara as our present to each other since our bdays are 8 days apart. It was actually perfection and we've decided it's something we want to keep doing for the rest of our lives.
