I made E scrambled eggs with tomatoes, spinach and cheese for lunch.
She had egg for the first time at 6 months for her flu shot. She's had eggs several times since. The other day, I made 3 eggs thinking she would eat one and I would eat the rest and she ate almost the whole thing. I can't really count how many times she's had them but it's been a lot? At least onceish a week?
As she was eating, she started rubbing her left eye. She kept doing it but it didn't look red so I just thought she was tired. She finishes almost all her lunch so I take her upstairs for a bottle and nap. Give her the bottle. I noticed she is still sort of rubbing her eye anointing the light on and take her to the window. I notice her left eye is slightly red and there were barely visible small bumps around her eye. I kind of start panicking internally. I run downstairs and get my phone to take these photos. As I am taking them she gets kind of fussy. I sat her up and she threw up. Just once. Maybe it was sort of like spitting up.
I'm trying to rationalize this in my head. I get hives and irritated eyes when I rub some things in my eyes, too. If I start testing her for things at the allergist the skin and blood could be positive and she isn't even allergic. She sucked down her bottle super fast while flat on her back and I was fussing with her for the pictures so maybe that's why some of it came back up.
The eggs were all over her face as most of her food often is. Only the nettle rash looking things are where she kept rubbing it in her eye.
I didn't give her Benadryl. It self corrected. I'm holding her for a nap now on the floor of her room.

Any seasoning, sweetie? Could it be tomatoes? Sometimes their acidity can cause irritation but not an allergic reaction and it looks similar when they rub?
Ok you guys are making me feel better. Maybe it was the tomatoes. They were grape tomatoes and I threw them in the skillet with the eggs.
The cheese was fresh mozzarella? She's had that before and grape tomatoes with Caprese pasta , though. I don't remember her rubbing either into her eye, however.
Maybe she threw up/ spit up because she got so irritated with me and her crying made her spit up? Does that happen?
I feel like a crap mom. I just called the allergist to schedule her peanut challenge and I couldn't bring myself to mention it because they will start testing her for all sorts of stuff and I honestly cannot deal.
You guys have experienced the hive looking little bumps with tomatoes? Let me circle the area of the bumps....
Tomatoes irritated H's skin for a long time. I can't squeeze the water out of defrosted spinach without getting numbness in my hands. Maybe it was one of those?
I'm going to say the tomato too. A used to get that same rash/bumps after she'd rub her face with strawberries on her hands.
If it resolves after you clean her face and it's been several hours, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd try tomatoes one more time before calling it. It could also be that the food residue just upset her skin. Sometimes that still happens to A.
it looks like contact from the tomatoes maybe I would still monitor her closely during nap but I think if it goes away on it's own (without benadryl) she's ok. Maybe when she wakes up just wash her face real good in case any is still on her
I dont think she's allergic. Maybe just skin sensitivity?
Hugs. I also think it's the tomatoes. They're acidic and used to irritate Jamie's face. He's definitely not allergic though and they're now his favorite food. I would wash her face and see if the reaction goes away
I'm so sorry you're having to worry about this, Lola! You're a wonderful mom and your kids will thrive, no matter what.
I see the little bumps and they do look somewhat like hives but I don't think they'd only appear just around 1 eye for a food allergy? I used to get little hives like that from petting dogs then touching my face, and occasionally from wool sweaters.
I think it's probably nothing, but maybe you can rub some egg and some tomato on the back of her arm? Then try feeding her egg again separately? You've given it to her before with no issues, so hopefully it was just a crazy fluke, but I can 1000% understand being scared.
I turned the contrast way up on this photos so you can see the tiny hivey bumps.
FWIW this is strangely similar to L's peanut second exposure. That's why i am in a panic and feeling debilitated. He rubbed his eye, it turned red and he got these small pinpoint hive looking things around his eye. It was the only thing that happened. It self resolved by the time we got to urgent care and they thought I was insane.

Thank you, C. I get this, too , if I pet my cats then rub my eye. It actually happened last week and my eye almost became swollen shut.
I hope it was just something random and weird. I'm assuming if she did have egg allergy it would have surfaced before an exposure at least once a week for the last 2-3 months?
I'll give her each item separately next time, like you guys suggested. Thank you so much.
that's totally what DD's early reactions to skin contact with tomato and eggplant looked like. looks like you're back now so i hope that's a reassurance but I'll say that for a while after those first reactions to the tomato and eggplant, I would only serve her those foods during the day - just in case I needed to call the doctor or go somewhere. Eventually she had enough non-reactions that it was fine.

I think so too. Keep us updated!
If E has been around your cats lately, she may share your allergy. Ours are starting to shed everywhere now that it's warming up.

Hugs. I see the hives but I do hope it's from the acidity of the tomatoes and not an allergic reaction to eggs. Also to keep in mind that E was allergic to eggs (but not egg products) and yogurt but outgrew both after he turned one.
