Last year we planted some Angelonia out in front of house, they did fantastic. South facing yard, zone 7. Are there any perennials similar to that would work? thanks for any ideas. Signed- Clueless

I worked in a nursery for years and always dreaded the Angelonia table because it stunk so bad. It made my fingers smelly handling it. But I agree that Salvia would be a good perennial choice for zone 7. It has a very long bloom time as compared to other perennials, bees love it, and you can get it in different varieties. Heights range from 6-8" for the shorter ones, up to about 15-18". And it comes in shades of purple, or white.

My parents own greenhouses. I hate mums for the same reason.
not quite as pretty but we're planting Catmint walkers low, it's got tall purple blooms too and is drought tolerant. I'm doing russian sage too (more purple)
I never thought the Angelonia smelled, but I have terrible allergies so who knows what I was missing. Haha. But yes I was looking for recs of something that was a similar size/height etc.

Thanks for the recs.
A lot of things smell fine when you have a regular number of garden plants. when you have a whole semi-load or several acres (ahem, mums) that's when they stink. LOL
