My parents had a cat that would do this! He'd proudly bring the mouse into the kitchen drop it and then watch my parents chase it! He'd meow a lot and try to "help", but would never kill the thing himself. Then he'd walk around all upset once it had been removed. I loved that cat.

Well, he could've killed it and left its eviscerated corpse at the bottom of the stairs for you to unknowingly step on with bare feet first thing in the morning. I can personally attest that this is one of the least pleasant ways to start the day.
River cat did this once. I was so startled that I screamed and jumped on top of a filing cabinet while I was naked. Boyfriend was sitting out on the patio and walked into that scene when he heard me shouting for him. It wasn't dignified.
He's abandoned mice now and just brings home pissed off grasshoppers that usually only have one leg by that point. It is surprisingly difficult to catch a one legged, angry grasshopper.
