Thoughts on this wood floor issue?

We're in the process of putting on an addition. Part of it is a new family room off the existing kitchen.

Pre-addition, our kitchen floor (wood) had a transition running the width of it between it and the dining room. Now, the room is open where one end of the transition used to terminate. I thought the contractors were putting in another transition to make a T shape, but this is what I came home to.

Thoughts? Would you have them add the transition or leave it as is?

I think I would prefer a transition there. It seems awkward to just end.

That does seem odd. I'd want them to run a wide board perpendicular to that wall end forming an "L" shape. Is that what you originally wanted?

We had originally talked about a T-shape, but now I'm wondering if an L-shape would be better.

Honestly, after reading and then seeing the pics I think I would leave what they did.
It seems a lot less obvious to me than what you photoshopped.

Not in the scope or budget of the current project to rip up the existing floor, sadly.

I'd do the L, but line up the end with the far edge of the wall. To me, visually it makes sense, like you are enclosing the kitchen.
