Awww!!!! I feel so honored to be allowed to share my love for making beautiful things.... Thank you all so much.
This is kind of a tangent but a life lesson / pondering by me....
I was watching "Birdman" last night and in a weird sort of way related to the main character and his voices, which were for me a metaphor for the creative thing inside me that " talks " to me. There's a part in the movie where the main character is talking to a play critic and it struck a chord.
My senior year in high school we got a new art teacher and not only was he an asshole, but he was a misogynist and berated kids in the class. One day I stood up and yelled at him on behalf of someone else. I just couldn't take it anymore. He punished me by not graduating me with art honors and after that incident he told me I would never have a career as an artist. Then my first year at art school in NYC one of my patternmaking professors told me I would never be a fashion designer because of my sewing. In my 20's I just didn't have the patience for proper sewing.... I was too excited to see the finished 3D product. Well low and behold, NO fashion designer on 7th Ave actually sits at a sewing machine ever. What jerks.
I am so off on a tangent, but nurture your child's abilities. Encourage them. Dreams are awesome... Especially in those that are creative and artistic. The artistic child is often told that they can't and they shouldn't. That it is a hobby. If you are gifted with one, nurture that talent, please!!!
