And that is the problem. Thankfully, though, Cruz is not SOS or the Pres. But, as others have said....Hillary says she followed the letter of the law so, move along people. MOVE ALONG!
WTF? Ok, tef. Time to calm down now.
We're not saying that because HRC said she didn't do anything wrong that we need to move along. We're saying that until it is further hashed out it doesn't appear that she has broken any laws.
I am actually, surprisingly, quite calm(I don't need head pats)...just being sarcastic. Even I am not sure she broke a law, just that it is shady but some do not want to admit it is/say it out loud. I think you are waiting on it to flesh out, but I am not sure that is the case for MrsA et al.
You know, I hadn't really thought of it that way before MrsAxilla's arguments, but it's absolutely true that we trust every single government official to determine what is personal and what is work-related electronic communication. There's nothing stopping Ted Cruz from having any number of Gmail accounts for sending whatever he wants to whomever he wants related to his job, and we don't have anything in our system set up to prevent that beyond trust.
I'm also glad to hear that I made some kind of coherent argument somewhere. I'm about to pour my third glass of wine, though, so that's about to end - lol.

I think most of us here have said we don't like how this is playing out, but that for many of us it's not a deal breaker.
Maybe I've watched too much House of Cards and Scandal but I really do believe that all of our senior government officials are acting like this, just most aren't high enough profile to have gotten caught.
FTR I don't care so much about her breaking archiving rules, or violating ethical obligations. (Well I do, but I dont.) It's what she's covering up by doing this. Because I don't think people have their own email servers and delete everything on them when they are completely transparent and have nothing to hide. i think she's hoping everyone will freak out for 1.5 news cycles about the server and look no further because email archiving is such a small matter to the vast majority of people. She's probably skilled by now at eliminating all traces of her involvement in major scandals, so have no fear Ds. She'll still come out on top.
This is bothersome to me and I can't articulate why exactly because nothing illegal happened. I think it's because I expect transparency and also how I manage my own professional (and even personal) email that sets my expectations for my elected officials.
Guess HRC wants a viable 3rd party? She makes Dems shady, R's are fucking crazy, so 3rd party candidates? Anyone here interested in running? We could probably all get you elected.

Bingo.
And they all have them. If they didn't, they would have raised hell years ago. Her email address wasn't exactly a secret known only to her.
I guess I'm just surprised that people expect this to be a game changer.
The only thing that makes her different from 99% of people in politics is that she got caught. The fact that she got caught by journalists and not Republicans or any of the probably thousands of people privy to her email address since 2008 should tell you that the rest of DC saw the email as normal, not an aberration warranting further scrutiny.
And I still maintain she planted the story to control it since she knew it was an area the media was sniffing around.

I applied this thought process to the initial discovery of her use of a personal email account to conduct business. The subsequent deletion of everything just smacks of "I do what I want deal with it". I don't like that approach to politics from Scott walker and I don't like it here either.
that's on her actual personal email account. This one probably has an ongoing smutty role play with Netanyahu
Those dirty, dirty Jews - lol.
Oh Benny, the way you told Ahmadinejad to shove himself up his own ass was sooooooo powerful. Are you gonna nuke him? Tell me you're going to nuke him. Tell me you have your finger on the trigger right now.

I don't like it and I agree it is bullshit.
But I'm sure politicians are deleting and shredding stuff all the time.
I've said my peace on all this before. But bottom line? There is zero intellectually honest way for Dems to rationalize their way out of this. Zero. I find the spinning in here and elsewhere laughable.
Actually no. There is only one honest conclusion that Dems can take comfort in and that is this: HRC's actions are deplorable but the GOPs are scarier, both in practice and in theory. That's it. That's all the Dems have here. Trying to make this okay or less wrong? Nope. You are turning yourself into a bizarre pretzel.

Preach!!! I am liberal as hell but come on. This is ridiculous. Glad we agreed in this.
Her shady ass deleting those emails is both indefensible and a big fucking deal.
I'm five years late to this convo and I'm sure someone covered it but what makes it extra goddamned shady is that heifer DIDN'T wipe that server until October 2014 with that request came in asking for specific email exchanges.
So she can't claim that she was merely operating under what she assumed was an acceptable protocol during her tenure. She simply cannot.
Homegirl got rid of something. Now maybe she was merely playing footsie with that guy whose emails that whatever site was asking about or talking smack about John Boehner's tan, who the fuck knows, but it's shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaady.
There is less shade in the fucking amazon forest.
Cookie wins all the prizes for that cheater husband analogy but that's exactly what this is. If your husband has been deleting emails after ten days since the beginning of fucking time, fine, boo, I'll catch you some other way. But if after months of telling you he ain't cheating he only deletes his email AFTER you ask to see those emails he was sending to that skank down in accounting, YOU GOT PROBLEMS.
Okay as much fun as the idea of Hillary getting dirty with politicians is, why in the flying hell did she wait until someone asked for specific emails between her and a specific person did this server get scrubbed?
Coincidence???
And the last time Hillary told me she was caught up in a right wing conspiracy over nothing, look where it got us.

This is kind of where I shake out on this. You really don't think if the Rs or anyone else saw a major problem with her email situation, this wouldn't have come out YEARS ago? They would have been foaming at the mouth about it, for god's sake. It doesn't exactly take a high level investigation to notice that she was using a non-government email account. If there was even the faintest whiff of impropriety related to her emails, this would have been out already.
If she followed the letter of the law, this really doesn't change anything for me.

I don't like it, but what's my alternative? Vote for Scott Walker and watch him appoint SCOTUS justices who will overturn Roe and give corporations even more rights and generally set things back 100 years?
Since the GOP isn't going to put up anyone moderate and hasn't shown it can keep its hands out of my uterus, I don't feel like I have much of a choice here.
It is shady. You shouldn't do business through a personal email because it looks like you are trying to create your own version of history by picking and choosing what to forward back to your gov't email address.
Also, I expect all politicians to be totally shady - I try to pick the guys who are using their shade for things I agree w/. Really, I just want someone who can get things done. And someone with a back bone. Clinton is a hard ass. I think she could produce.
I don't understand how the D's don't have a solid bench, though. It's not like it's a surprise that the election is coming up. Get your shit together.
Because it is her turn!!!!! This dynasty stuff has caused people to sit on the back burner and allowed her to be a forgone conclusion.
I lean much farther right than 99.9% on this board and I am so disappointed in HRC because she was, IMO, a rare dem candidate I could rally behind. I used to think she was so badass. But now, this...this is not something that can be forgiven, forgotten or explained away. It's shady as all get out and I think it could be the tip of an iceberg.
