We've never had any issues with our grill....and they're not stainless steel. The grills can be replaced if needed for like $20, I think we have to replace them every 3 years or so but we aren't the best about cleaning it between every use.
But if you're truly looking for something I would go with weber.

Weber... We have had one outside, uncovered for 16 years. Still works. We are looking to replace it because DH wants a bigger one, and it is starting to show some signs of wear, but if my DH was not a perfectionist, we would be fine with it for a much longer.
We have a Weber Spirit, I believe. We like it. I think it was around $500. If the stainless steel grates are actually better than the black ones, I think I would have preferred that.
Weber. I've had a three burner Genesis model for 11+ years. It gets used daily during the summer and weekly during the winter, even here in Minnesota. I've replaced both the grates and the igniter once, and I probably need to do the grates again in the next year or two. My mom still has my parents' Weber, and it has to be almost 25 years old and works wonderfully. They're just bombproof grills, and they're consistently rated as some of the best options out there.
Can you explain the superiority of the Big Green Egg to me? We're looking for a small (18") charcoal grill and DW wants a Big Green Egg but they're so expensive!
First, they are basically indestructible, so you'll buy one and have it forever. That makes them MM!
Next - THEY MAKE ALL BBQ AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! You know how, sometimes, you cook chicken on a grill and it comes out really dry and sort of stringy-ish? Chicken on the Egg is moist and out of this world. Same for veggies, other meat, fish, and even (!) baked goods. A pizza on the egg is astoundingly delicious, like your own private pizza oven.
Given the design, you essentially get a grill (obviously) but also a smoker AND an oven.
There are other competitive products that attempt to mirror the Egg's design, but the good ones are priced right up there with the egg. The thick ceramic structure creates a cooking environment that is superior to every grill I've ever used.
I was you in this discussion with my H - and now that we have an egg, I am the convert and am incredulous that everyone who could afford one doesn't have one. They are a bit funny looking, oh well, but all you need to do is cook on it once and you (and everyone you serve) will start converting.
I guarantee you would love it, seriously GET ONE!
(Also if you're unsure, there are egg gatherings called Eggfests that you can keep an eye out for - we went to an egg gathering at an outdoor store near us, and they had over 50 big green egg chefs cooking & you got to taste the food (yum) and see the grills in action.)
