So, now that things from the move are finally settling out, it's time to figure out our taxes...
Any recommendations on software to use? I know there are multiple options now. Our taxes are fairly simple, overall. No kids, no state taxes, standard deduction, some investment income, and the biggest complexity being foreign investment income (with tax form from another country to boot).
I've always used turbo tax but due to their ID theft issues this year I thought I'd try something else. I started on tax act yesterday and couldnt make heads or tails of it. We have local taxes here that tax act wasn't set up to do. It's HSA questions didn't make any sense to me. I ended up abandoning it and going back to TT. It's double the price but it took me just a few hours, we straight forward and didn't have any problems. Worth the less hassle.
Turbo tax is easier than tax act, but you pay for that. For simple taxes, tax act might be fine, but when I got into my rental property, I had to know the details of my depreciation and such. Turbotax just did that for me.

Yes if you use turobtax again it will carry forward all kinds of stuff from last year. That is why I continue to use it. It keeps track of my unallowed losses (carry over) from my rental, etc.
I used Tax Act and found it much easier to maneuver through Turbo Tax, so have ante'd up the $$ and filed this way. I also like the fact that once you put the info in the first time, you don't have to change much other than the amounts from year to year.
I'm so jealous. We are still not done. I really want to finish, but we need H's company to confirm something. And we are down to 2 weeks. Otherwise I'll just have to file and plan on doing an amendment.
