I just bought my first pair of Hoka's. The guy at my local running store fit me in them. I normally wear Asics, but started having some foot pain. I know functionality is the most important thing, but boy are the Hoka's ugly. I am totally fine with ugly if they are good. Please tell me they are worth it.
They are SO ugly, but tons of my trail running friends swear by them. I got the Stinsons (I know there lots of road options too, but it's the trail people who have recommended them to me) and they ended up not working for me. Too squishy. What kind of Asics do you normally use? I seem to need the firm footbed, and returned some Asics Gel Nimbus, so I hope they work for you!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
I usually wear the GT 2000. I overpronate. However, the guy that fit me last recommended a more neutral shoe. He said that because my Asics kept my feet from rolling in, that was causing my foot pain. He said I was putting a lot of pressure on the outside of my feet.
They're definitely more neutral! I hope they work for you. It's always a bit fun to try something new. I liked the feel of them, but t just exacerbated a toe issue I have.

I love them! I've been wearing them for a couple years for trail running. I still prefer my Pure Flows for road races but even though they are hideous, Hokas are sooooo comfy.

I love them! But it's totally a personal thing. Some people love them, some don't. I have the Stinson ATRs and I just got a pair of the Challenge ATRs today so I can rotate. I love the extra cushioning when I'm out on long trail runs.

I don't own any but I've demo'ed them a few times...I hate them. I don't feel like I get enough "feel" of the ground while I'm running [especially on trails] and I've always felt like the toe box is too roomy? Not necessarily really wide, but a lot of space on the top of the feet so my toes are just wiggling around.
But...that's just me! I know people who LOVE them!
I ran about 2 miles in them this afternoon. So far, I am not a fan of the way they fit my feet. My pinky toes were numb and sore. I'll try them again tomorrow, and if it doesn't really change, I will exchange them.
