In Tman's old school, it was so small that if the teacher or parent had a concern, they were addressed right away. It was very personal. At Tman's new school, it's bigger and the teacher isn't able to communicate at that level with every parent. I get this and prefer him to be in the bigger school, but...our first parent/teacher conference is this upcoming week, and I'm nervous.
Teachers, what can I expect? Will his teacher just tell me all the stuff he needs to improve on, or will it be more like strengths and weaknesses? If I have an idea of what to expect, I won't be as anxious abou it.
Parents who have gone to PTC, did the teacher tell you anything surprising? Like about your child's behavior or how they do in school? I know that Tman talks too much and often when he's not supposed to - can be disruptive to the class. I know that he doesn't always try his best or focus properly. I expect this feedback, but I'm really curious what SHE is going to say.
- standardized test results possibly, if he takes those. - student work and other assessments done in class - we should always talk about strengths, and if the teacher doesn't, I would probably complain... - If he needs to work on anything, or what he needs to do to continue progress. I always tell parents something they could work on at home, even if the kid is always meeting expectations. There is always things they can be doing to continue growth -ask for parent questions/concerns - share resources for parent support
Those are the things that I always do in my PTC. I have files for each kid and go through their work and talk about what they are doing well and how they need to improve...that usually allows me to touch on everything. I write out strengths and weaknesses before hand as well, that way I'm prepared to talk about their strengths. It's easy to talk about weaknesses....
It seems you already know the weaknesses you will probably hear, so I wouldn't be nervous.
