Does the smell of nail polish bother any of you or your SOs? Every time I paint my nails, H makes a huge fuss about how smelly it is, how he can't breathe, etc. (Dramatic much??)
I can barely smell it, prob from years of getting used to it.
I paint my nails pretty much every weekend and H has never been bothered even if I'm doing it right next to him. I've asked if it bothers him but he says he doesn't mind it. So he must not think it's too bad

Grow up? I love my nail polish, but my XH used to hate the smell. I would never tell him to "grow up" over it though, as I have my own scent and hearing sensitivities and telling somebody to grow up over it is the height of awful.

Really? "Height of awful"? I think you've not seen anything truly awful if telling my husband to act like an adult and suck it up is the WORST thing that one can do.
Yep, H hates when I paint or remove polish in the same room as him.
Confession: at my old company I was so dead on a few occasions I would go paint one hand/one coat at time in the bathroom; if I needed to do my nails. I only thought of this because of how strong the smell is

Some polish brands stink to high hell especially some of the cheaper ones. I've got a super sensitive sense of smell and some brands I dont even notice and others I cant use because the smell bothers me so bad. Blue pigments can also have a skunky smell when added to nail polish so they tend to stink the worst!
No one here complains when I do my nails but the cats tend to wrinkle their little kitty noses at me
We just had this discussion at work! My boss' wife works here and she was saying how he would make a huge deal about the smell even hours later. I was commiserating because my dad was the same way, which sucked for him because he has five daughters and a wife! My husband complains too but more about the remover than the polish.

Wow, that was fun to read. I personally can't stand the smell of nail polish. My little sister always insited on doing her nails on long road trips and I would practically hang my head out the car window. I paint my nails about 3 times a year, and DH has never said anything about the smell so I guess he doesn't care.
My DH is allergic to certain smells and fragrances and they give him migraines. I don't wear perfumes because of this. While I have painted my nails around him before and he hasn't complained, I try to do it while he is not around. I myself don't like the smell as much and don't mind the smell of just one bottle of polish in use. However I do get a headache when I am at a nail salon.
this thread is funny. DH is the same way as OP. I'll whip out the bottle without telling him and suddenly he smells it and it's like "oh doing your nails in here again?" Um, yeah.

Ha. When I would paint my nails, my dog would dramatically snort into the carpet for a few moments and then bark at me, followed by a dog tantrum (if you have/had a beagle you know what I'm talking about). It was ridiculous but adorable. Funny that she never did it if she was too busy chewing on a bone or ripping up a toy.

I'm the height of shitty too, because I'd also tell him to get over it. All this time I've been thinking the height of shitty was my spouse farting under the blankets; but no, it's ME for painting my nails in front of him.
