I have basement laundry (so two flights of stairs too) and it isn't a big deal at all, but was something that we compromised on. We originally wanted main floor laundry.

The washer and dryer are in the basement of our house and the bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. It kind of sucks but there's no way around it and this has been the arrangement in every house I have ever lived in so it's no big deal to me. It's not our forever home so I'm not as critical about that kind of thing and I figure I may as well take the stairs while I'm young.
If you are just starting to look and discuss it's hard to pull the trigger quickly. Do you have a timeline for moving? Do you think this place will go quick or is your market slow? Many houses sit on the market at this time of year since buyers wait for the full spring housing rush.
I wouldn't buy a house based on the colour scheme unless if you are talking about kitchen counters and hardwood floors in the tones that you like. Painting is easy and cheap. Don't let décor make you fall in love. You have to really like the bones of the place.

House hunting around here is awful. The prices are ridiculous and there are so many areas. We knew we wanted a single family and generally knew where we wanted to be but finding one in our price range was laughable. Any house we could afford would go on the market and be under contract almost immediately. We were the first people to see our house and by the time we submitted our offer that evening we were one of three offers. Good luck!
