Did you get it designed and installed? Did you go the DIY route with Elfa or Pax or the like? Do you remember, roughly, what you spent and the size?
We need a new closet and were looking at IKEA on Saturday, but it would take a rocket scientist to determine the best configurations. I mean, I'm technically married to a sorta rocket scientist, but this is not his bag. Ha.
We did Easy Closets in our old house master closet and spent $1200-1500 (I don't remember the exact figure). We had to install it ourselves but it wasn't too hard.
We did Container Store Elfa in DD's closet and it was about $800 with the discount that they do twice a year. Easy closets was nicer (it's solid, not wire) but it's not really super reconfigurable like Elfa, which is what I wanted for a child's closet.
ETA: Our old closet was quite large, we had 4 good sized walls we put the system on (weird shape, we had like 12 walls in there). DD's closet was a reach-in.
We've had two giant Pax systems. Our current one is a huge L-shaped one but it came with our place. The first one, we designed ourself (not hard) and hired one of IKEA's recommended contractors to build it. HIGHLY recommend you have someone build the frame/doors. I built and installed all of the interior and it took forever but it was worth it. For that one, I think we had one that was 98" wide and 93" tall...I want to say it was around $1200 for materials and $300 to build but that was over 5 years ago.
By the way, I have had some bad IKEA furniture experiences but I have been very impresses with the quality of this line.
janegold - did you use their website builder or just look around at examples and go from there?
I went to the store and just used one of the paper planners they have there. It was helpful to look at all the versions they have set up in the store and figure out which options would work best for us. It was a little overwhelming but not terrible once you started to sort of mentally place things. Bring your H (or your mom, if you're like me, lol) and DON'T bring your kids. It took some concentration.

We've done several options. For the closets at our old house we did the Rubbermaid fast track system sold at Lowe's/Home Depot. It was easy since you only have to find the studs for the rail. It's a good, cheaper option if you want mostly hanging clothes and flexibility. I don't love having folded clothes on wire racks, but we have dressers for that. They do make drawers that match this system, but I didn't like them so we didn't buy them.
My favorite is the PAX ikea system. We have several around the house for different reasons. They are easy to build, but time consuming. I think the wooden drawers were the most complicated to install, but I love them so much. They were worth the extra money.
