Is anyone else a member? It's a neighborhood website.
I have been a member for about a year and I have yet to see any real benefit. I now realize how unsafe my neighborhood is and that there are a ton of people who lose and find dogs.

I was on it for about 2 weeks before I had my account deactivated. It made me too paranoid. I felt like my neighborhood was really unsafe and I didn't like that. I prefer blissfully unaware.

I joined it about a month ago and haven't seen a real benefit. Most posts are people complaining about stray cats and that someone's trash can was visible from the street.

We had hilarious drama when a dollar store went in down the street and people lost their minds about property value. Also citrus theft, property line disputes, garage sale wars and an argument about where you are allowed to park motor homes. No value but it's fun to read when things are slow.
Drama about who owns the possibly feral tom cat because the crazy lady across the street lets her unvaccinated cats out. Also rebellion against the HOA and the nastygrams for lawns.
I was in my previous neighborhood. My favorite was the warnings about coyote sightings in the evenings, followed by a post about a husky mix that jumped a fence. It took the active posters 3 days to make the connection that the loose dog was the "coyote"
The local PD (small town) uses it as a police blotter & to announce events like a prescription med drop off drive.
Yep, I've learned our neighborhood is super boring. Someone only posts on it once every few weeks.
Some examples: 1) Does recycling come on Friday now? 2) Can anyone recommend a contractor/chimney inspector/plumber, etc.? 3) I found a random glove 4) I need to rehome a guinea pig 5) I lost my garbage can (This happens more often than anything. We live on a really windy hill) 6) I found someone's garbage can
And my personal favorite: Someone drove a nice looking black car around the neighborhood about 2mph. It looked like they were casing the place. Anyone know who it belongs to?
I can't sign up because a RSO lives in my building, but I think I'm glad about that (not him living there....that I hate.)
Why does that prevent you from signing up?
Not that you're missing anything, I'm just curious.
Nextdoor doesn't allow RSO's so you have to go through a bunch of extra steps to prove you aren't the offender if you and the offender have the same address (but different unit numbers or whatever.) I'm the type that if it requires extra work, I probably won't do it.

Ours is nothing but a bunch of snotty old rich people with absolutely nothing to do. They bitch about every single thing- from people driving boats in "their" channel to door to door sales man kidnapping kids and making them work for free ..
I'm on Nextdoor. Our neighborhood seems to be pretty active. The neighbors post about many different topics, but like your neighborhood, there is a lot of posting about crime. I still think our neighborhood is pretty safe.
I found someone's dog who had posted on Nextdoor about it being missing. We also got recommendations for some really good contractors.
We were just talking about this. Our HOA is just Nextdoor ridiculous. Apparently, some of our neighbors are so totally silly and this is the place they put all their bored, petty vents. I've stopped looking at posts there because, I've seen very little of value and I just get ragey over posts like..."the people on street Y have visitors parking on the grass". OMG, whatever. I promise it is not that big of a deal.
Ours is great and active. People used it to organize a neighborhood easter egg hunt, and to share info about our still developing neighborhood.
They also organized a neighborhood cleanup--although in my opinion, there's literally nothing to clean up. But I guess there are worse things than a neighborhood g2g with doughnuts and coffee.
There's one crazy troll dude and he is hilarious. And every once in awhile a thread about dog pee or visible trash cans that just melts down.
I had no clue so many people had cameras installed in their homes. Lots of people post screenshots of people vandalizing/stealing.
We just put cameras on our property. We can watch them from an app on our phone, too. It's just our backyard and gate to the fence. We're about 95% sure someone has been in our backyard twice (that we know of) in the last couple of weeks. And when they detect motion, they will send a screen shot to DH's email. He had it too sensitive at first and the first day he got over 1000 emails.
