I got the mail today and thought my grandma sent us an Easter card. Nope it was a check from my grandfather's will for $200 to be split between me and junior. I am going to invest the money for junior so that later in life he will have more. My grandfather gave me the wise advice when I got my first job to pay yourself first and I want to pass this onto junior by investing this money and not having him spend it on toys.
I want to do something to remember my grandfather by with my portion. My mom suggested planting a tree but this is not our forever home and I want something I can keep with me. I was thinking maybe putting it towards an Adirondack chair but am looking for other creative suggestions.
ETA - Specifically something like a set of pearl studs that could be your everyday set. (I used to have a very small set of diamonds studs that reminded me of my dad, in better times.)
Do you have a sample of his handwriting from an old greeting card? I plan to get a pendant with the word "Love" written in my grandma's handwriting for both my mom and me for Mother's Day. Etsy has a bunch of great shops with various options.
Are there any hobbies he loved? Any interests that you and he shared?
He liked gardening but I do not have a green thumb. I am afraid I would kill anything I plant.
If he liked gardening (and MMness, as you indicated above), why don't you invest the money for now and then plant a tree when you move to a home you plan to stay in forever?

I would buy a beautiful ceramic flower pot (or 2) & work on your green thumb in honor of your grandfather. That way you can think of him every spring when you plant new flowers. There are some flowers that are fairly easy to care for/maintain - ask at the garden center when you go shopping.
