Dh really wants to keep it white. We'll be painting the doors black and putting in black spindles on the balcony. (Landscaping is clearly in need, but to be fair, nothing's grown yet as it's just now getting nice).
There's a similar house in our neighborhood that is brown, like a khaki color, and I think it looks really nice. I had to do a google image b/c how creepy is it to take a picture of someone else's house?! So it doesn't do it justice really.
White. Your roof looks like it's in good condition. White siding will look better with your gray roof. The brown house looks fine, but they also have a brown roof.

Good point. Our roof is actually black though. It was raining in the picture, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it? Our roof is only a year old, so that's not changing!!
I said khaki/brown, but then I read what lilac05 said--I do agree w/ the roof color aspect.
We looked at a house that was ALL WHITE (OMG) and I swear, it was blinding white. The whole thing was white though (with green shutters/door) so there was nothing to break it up. You house isn't all siding, so it will look better than the one I'm referencing.
Are you changing the siding and have to choose a color? Or are you just wanting to change the color and the siding doesn't need to be replaced?
We're changing the siding and have to choose a color.
isabel, I honestly have no clue right now. We've got a list of companies providing bids (including HD and Lowe's) but nothing has come back yet. I'd be happy to keep you updated.
One of my neighbors replaced their siding with that khaki/taupe color. It looks nice with his stone facade and doesn't show the dirt or mold like his former ivory did. There's a similar medium gray that's pretty too.

I would keep the siding white. I would also keep the spindles white. I think the spindles being black would bug the shit out of me, but that's personal taste, I realize. And I'd use the door for a pop of color. Maybe a green; a deep, bright but not crazy green. And I'd keep the shutters black.
I say white. But I don't usually like the look of brick against white. I prefer painted white brick against white siding.
NOOOOOO!
Shutters are staying black, we both like them. We're very white/black/grey boring people. We may look into a different color door, but I doubt it. We've considered grey for the siding, but after looking at other houses in our neighborhood with our same layout, we've settled on white or khaki. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE BETWEEN 3, TWO IS HARD ENOUGH!
Please don't use khaki or any shade of tan to your house. With the black roof, white will look best. And I agree with MixedBerryJam that painting the spindles will look very busy. Have you done a photoshop mockup of the colors? And here is a blog post with a brief comment on siding colors. www.mariakillam.com/vinylsiding/
No, I don't have photoshop or access to it. I tried to do something on Menard's website, but it didn't work. That's why I was looking at other nearly identical houses in my neighborhood.
Haha, I "took a look" at the blog post and it took me 2 seconds, lol. I'll tell DH he wins. But I WON'T tell him it's b/c that's what the majority says here. I'm going to keep this in my back pocket for when I want something.
Definitely white. The suburbs are filled with a sea of khaki/beige houses. White is crisp and classic, and will give you more leeway to accessorize. Someone suggested painting the door a fun color, and I agree.
I also don't really like the idea of black spindles. I think they'll stick out too much and distract from the rest of the house. Since you're painting them, you can always paint back over them if it looks bad, but painting white over black sounds like a huge pain in the ass. Did you see an example of black spindles that you liked? If so, post a pic of that house if you can (when you can).
ETA: Oh wait, you said "putting in" black spindles, not painting them. I strongly urge you to reconsider if you haven't seen an example of this.

Here's another house in the neighborhood (I made DH go take a pic, cops should be arriving shortly). I was planning on doing "plain" black spindles instead of the more ornate ones.

lol. That's awesome. I was expecting a rundown of the maybe 6 or 8 most popular colors and showing examples where they work, where they don't work, maybe roof and shutter color recommendations, etc.
White. Omg that khaki is appalling. It's beige. Those people live in a beige box.
I would not do the spindles black; I'd leave them white as well. Consider a color for your door; bright red, deep green, something that will pop. The white with red brick is classic with the style of your house.
Yay! I love it when @cse1960 agrees with me. I feel so validated and wise! And I would have suggested red for the door, but I think with the brick it won't pop as much.

Red with brick can work but it's a case by case basis. I think a dark peacock green-blue would be lovely, although the curtains look greenish so I'm not sure.
I don't like the khaki colour particularily, but one of my neighbours resided with a very light beige. I've also seen a nice cream colour that looked really nice as well. It really helps make the home look more new and modern. IMO white siding makes homes look a bit dated.
