I've always been so intrigued by his case.
Family members and supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal say the former death row inmate was rushed to a Pennsylvania hospital to be treated for complications from diabetes.
Abu-Jamal's wife, brother and lawyers spoke Tuesday outside Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville, where he was taken Monday for treatment.
They say his blood sugar was dangerously high and he could have slipped into a diabetic coma.
Abu-Jamal is a former Black Panther serving life in prison for the 1981 murder of white Philadelphia Officer Daniel Faulkner. His conviction was upheld through years of appeals, but he has gained international support for his claim that he's the victim of a racist justice system.
His family is complaining that state prison officials failed to provide him with proper medical care.
Growing up in South Jersey, this has been a story that I knew well. I was amazed when I met people from other parts of the country who thought Mumia got screwed.

Interesting. I grew up in South Jersey and I knew lots of people who were all "Free Mumia."
Pottsville? PA people, am I alone in thinking they're trying to kill him if they're keeping him out there?
haha, no that is not it, though I understand the sentiment. He was probably in SCI Frackville so that hospital would have been the closest in proximity.

Ooooh. I didn't know we had one out in Frackville so when I saw Pottsville it seemed very random.
ETA: Most of DH's extended family is from Pottsville and worked in the brewery at some point. No hate for central PA. Just wouldn't want to live there.

Yes, most, if not all of SCI's are out in the middle of no where and pretty much only exist because of the prisons. SCI Frackville is in Frackville, PA located on Prison Road, lol. Graterford is exactly the same. There is a sign that says, ' welcome to Graterford' before the turn in to the prison, then right after says, ' thank you for visiting. Cracks me up every time I go there.
