No. It's something you might want to mention to your doctor. It could very well be nothing apart from you have different (ie weird) tastebuds, but I would definitely ask about it.
I wouldn't say I crave it but I have for sure done what you are describing bc I like the taste :/ I have no deficiencies. But I don't think it is normal by any means!
How's your fluid intake? It can be linked to dehydration (it's helps get fluid into your cells/forces you to drink more) Unlikely without other issues but it can occur in people with Addison's disease due to how it affects the system.
I do this too and really worry about it. I asked my dr., but she didn't seem concerned based on my labs. It doesn't seem normal, but I don't know what else to do! I LOVE SALT.
I certainly prefer salty foods over sweet but I don't think I've ever wanted it badly enough to eat some straight. I mean, I can demolish a bag of chips or a whole bag of cheese curds, but I think it has more to do with the taste and poor quantity control than need for salt.
I did go through a period of time in first year of university where I could peel and eat lemons and limes whole, something I would never have done before or after that year. It must have been some kind of imbalance due to the lousy cafeteria food that made me crave citric acid. It was weird.
One of my co-workers brought in some chocolate covered caramels that were dusted with Pink Himalayan Salt once. They were unreal.
Yes they are, they are indeed. There's a candy shop where DH grandparents live and we get some of these from there anytime we go down there. SOOO insanely good.
But I eat a TON of salt. I put it on almost everything that I eat. Granted, I haven't had blood work done recently, but I've always been good on all of my levels historically.
No, not a salt deficiency. A vitamin or a mineral deficiency. I vaguely recall something about iodine or sodium or manganese. Talk to your doctor.
I'm not just talking salty snacks, like actual, plain, salt.
I do normally seek out foods that are more salty, or that taste better when I add salt to them, but sometimes, I'll just eat salt. I keep a bowl of kosher salt on the counter for cooking and will sometimes just grab a pinch and eat it. MH thinks there is something wrong with me, he may be right
I have been like this since I was a child. I did ask my doctor about it, and there wasn't ever anything in my blood work to indicate a problem. Now if it is something rare then perhaps she didn't test.
My mom tells people that bottles of Lawry's seasoned salt would disappear from the cabinet and she would find them in my room. It is embarrassing, but true.
No. I'd be concerned about an iodine deficiency. Talk to your dr.
My sodium levels are consistently low. My dr would like me to get them up, but I'm not a fan of salt. He keeps suggesting one sports drink per day. I've tried, I just hate them.
I have been known to eat the salt off of pretzels and then throw the pretzel part away. I love salt! Can't hurt to tell you doctor, but all of my blood work comes back fine.
