Hmm. I think we did cold turkey. Only offered cups and after a couple days it was fine. We had a cup (munchkin maybe?) that had a silicone nipple/spout so it was similar feel to a bottle.
I'm going to dissent and feel bad with you...lol. Usually I'm the first to be "cold turkey/fast transition/don't be confusing" But it's not working for me this time.
I'm in the same boat. I've tried to take the damn bottles away 3xs. We are now down to nap and bedtime but I'd like to be done all together. I'd even let him go to bed with a sippy if it means no more bottles.
However, kid is attached. I've tried cold turkey and he screams and screams and screams. I can't let him scream because it gets him more worked up and it's miserable (same results with CIO). It's also a lovey item for him and soothing therefore the reason we get to bed. Kid has been a recently improved crap sleeper so I don't want to screw with it all over again at this point either.
He's stubborn too. He knows and loves a sippy expect at certain times of the day. I thought our recent vacation would help him forget and it didn't.
IDK what the answer is. At this point I'm waiting until he's 2 can speak and be reasoned with (read: bribed).
I'm also lost because with DD I threw her a sippy and that was that. She never cared.
I'm right there with you. We cut out bottles at naps but he still gets one when he wakes and one before bed, he freakin loves his bottle. And it's so part of the bedtime routine , I'm such a wimp. I tried back at 13 months but with new baby, people at house, etc, I gave back in. And here we are at 18 months :/
I'm thinking when DH gets home in a couple weeks, I'll have him do it since he normally does bedtime,

Can I piggyback here? T is still getting a bottle at bedtime - she drinks about 8oz which is maybe half of the WCM she drinks in a day. I've tried to offer in a sippy at dinner but she won't drink it then.
Do kids that aren't on bottles have milk cups before bed? We do bottle - then brush - then bed so we're not rotting her teeth but I want to get rid of this thing ASAP.

I think I'll continue trying to encourage her to take non-bottles and just hope we can ditch before 2.
At least I know my nephew is almost 2.5 and he still gets a bottle. So I'm not the worst?
LOL. I was whining to my SIL about this very issue last week and she said, "Nephew had a bottle until almost 3. I could only fight so many wars and that wasn't one. One day he decided that was it and there we had it."
2 months ago I'd have been "WTF lets a 3 year old have a bottle. Now I'm all, hopefully he won't want it at nap time in kindie!" Haha.
The stupid part of my whole ordeal? DCP sent his bottle home the other day and she broke him of it no problem. How? What? Why? Why not me? LOL. Kid is playing me apparently.

We offer whatever she didn't drink at dinner before we go upstairs. Nothing after that except water after brushing her teeth.

I think daycare might be worth it just for this and potty training. SAH sucks sometimes! I need someone else to blame/take responsibility for things!
Daycare solves half my problems and I say, "learned that at DC" when they do something inappropriate.
The downside is they do a learn a lot at daycare sometimes I'd rather they not.

We give the girls a straw cup of milk before brushing teeth every night.
I might just wait until June. Oops you forgot the bottles at Grandma's house (or whatever you call it). She will not associate or be used to ever having a bottle at that house so that might be a good time to just rip the bandaid.
Camy is 21 months and addicted to the bottle. She never took a paci so the bottle is her crutch. I plan on attempting to take it away at two. DD1 had a bottle until almost three and then gave it up cold turkey. I really don't think it is that different from sucking on a sippy.
