DD was lethargic and flushed when I picked her up from daycare. Her teachers said some of the kids had strep.
She already has cold symptoms and said her tummy hurt and her neck hurt. When I asked about her neck she pointed to her throat. I looked at it and it's red. She also just threw up.
So now I don't know if she has the stomach bug or strep. Can strep show with symptoms of vomiting? Of course Dr.Google is saying maybe nausea, maybe vomiting, but not always. I have no experience with strep, she's never had it and neither have I.
Look in her throat and see if there are any white pustules (gross, yes). That is often a tell tail sign of strep, along with a fever. It usually isn't associated with nausea and vomiting unless it is pretty severe from my experience, Does your doctor have a quick strep test? The results are there within minutes instead of waiting 2-3 days. One of my favourite nursing duties at a doctors office was swabbing throats for strep. I'm strange, I know!
I think it's possible, DD2 just got diagnosed last night with strep and threw up Sat, with fever, but was fine and has had no fever since, except her throat hurt when she coughed and said her belly hurt yesterday.
Eta: her throat hurting and belly ache made me think it was more than a 24 hr bug
I'm not sure if her doctors has the quick test. I didn't see any white on her throat, just red. I'll keep an eye on it and call her doctor tomorrow. Thanks!

Yikes. This sounds like her. Hope your DD feels better.

Dd always starts strep as a "stomach bug." The sore throat and fever come within a few hours of the first vomit. It's pretty common to vomit with strep.

they likely do. I'm a frequent flyer for a throat swab and haven't hit a Dr. yet who couldn't do the rapid test.
more often I run into the "the rapid came back negative, but it's only accurate this high % of the time, so here are some antibiotics anyway" Sometimes if the rapid comes back neg. they will culture it for a few days and call you.
I would go in for a test. I thought the rapid was pretty standard. I just had step a week ago. It was pretty miserable and I had my first fever in years. I could not of stuck it out another day just thinking it was a sore throat.
Ugh. Thanks ladies. I'll keep an eye on her. Poor DD made it through the whole winter without any major illnesses. I totally jinxed myself too cause I was just saying that today to my girlfriend.
Another yes to vom with strep. DD1 had it last spring - came on fast and furious and I actually got her to the pedi within a couple hours of her first signs (I normally don't do that, but it was a Friday afternoon, so I called the pedi when she told me her throat hurt, b/c it was a first). Anyhow, she puked in the car on the way TO the doc. Which was awesome. That was the only time she threw up during the illness, but when I mentioned it to the pedi during her visit, she was like, "yep, sounds about right." Hope your LO feels better soon! Our case wasn't bad at all - a few hours of a mildly sore throat, a low-grade fever, the one puke, and then we started antibiotics and she was feeling great by morning (more or less).

Watch for a rash with it too. Also, white isn't 100% of the time. Dd had strep twice last year with no white in her throat. They thought she might be a carrier, but tested when she was heathy and it was negative. So at least she isn't a carrier.
