Someone filed under my SSN once. I had to call the IRS...then they dealt with it for a number of weeks or even months, was it? I think I had to send a letter or something in. They refused to tell me in the end what happened. It sucked and was annoying, but I really hated that I couldn't find out what happened!
We normally have everything done in Late January / Early February. I hate waiting and I want my money back! We opened a small business in 2014 and had a bunch of other stuff going on so it took longer to get the paperwork together. We also used an accountant for the first time because of the business. We finally filed mid March and it was such a relief.
My in-laws wait until the very last day and it would just give me anxeity. I NEED to know what is going on and how much I owe / will get back.

Damn. We tried to file tonight and we're rejected. Someone already filed with our information, but we don't know if it was both or just one of our identities stolen. What do I do now? We are filing by mail and submitting the fraud form to the IRS but I imagine we have to contact the credit agencies also. Anything else? I'm so annoyed.
I'd contact the credit bureaus for sure. Also, see if you can file a police report. I filed a police report during my identify theft, and it proved useful a couple of years later when my bank tried to freeze my accounts bc of the fraud.

Man I'm sorry. No advice. Can you call the police?
I was just reading the IRS website and they suggest filing a police report as well as notifying the credit bureaus and filing a complaint with the FTC.
I'm just not sure if both of our SSNs were hacked or just one. I guess we should assume both to be safe. This is not what I wanted to do today (or ever).
