My H just went down to the basement and discovered that the humidifier isn't draining and probably hasn't been for days . So the whole basement is flooded and the carpet is soaked. Lots of things will have to be thrown out.
Not only that, but the sump pump isn't working for some reason and is full. I don't know why it isn't draining water away. It's like somehow plugged both drains at the same time.
And H has to travel this week. I don't know when or how to fix this. Argh.
H got the sump pump working again and now I'm less upset. The bobber on the pump fell over, so the pump didn't turn on and that's why the water got so high. Apparently the other drain flooded because of the back-up from the sump pump. So we will have to check the sump pump daily to prevent this from happening again.
A plumber will be coming in the next hour, and he said full installation for a new pump will be $450. Not bad. Game of Thrones will be on in 1.5 hours though, so we will have to watch the episode later on demand. I'm bummed lol. FWP!
I've had a sore throat all weekend, and I'm wondering if the dampness in the basement is the cause. The whole house is smelling damp and musty now . Will it ever go away? I'm so dejected. I'm ready to tear the basement apart to get rid of the smell.
Just an update - the basement is cleaned out and the carpet is gone. It doesn't smell anymore! I'm SO happy about that. The tile floor is now dry too. Next we have to clean up/remove some of the damaged drywall. I'm really relieved the smell is gone.
Now that we're almost done dealing with the basement, the garage door decided to stop working lol. Some of the springs at the top broke off, so it won't go up and down on its own (that's what she said). I hope it's an inexpensive repair!
