Help a lazy, overburdened mom out so I don't turn a simple Google search into a 2-hour procrastination jaunt. Is there a way to get to the Blue Lagoon on public transport from the Reykjavik airport or from Reykjavik proper? And are there good connections between the airport and the city?
I'm considering a short stay there with two kids on my own. I loathe driving and won't be traveling with car seats.
I took a short trip to Iceland a couple years ago, and we booked buses (Gray Line?) ahead of time for airport transfers to and from Reykjavik, and to the Blue Lagoon.
The only thing I would say is that while Reykjavik is an awesome city some of the best parts of Iceland are outside it, so if you don't rent a car you would need to take a tour, so be comfortable with doing that without carseats. It would be a shame to go to Iceland and not see some of the stuff outside of Reykjavik.

There are busses to the blue lagoon from the airport and from downtown Reykjavik. Not public busses, more like tour busses.
Public transportation infrastructure in Iceland kind of sucks. I've taken the city bus a few times, but mostly just from my sister's house in the suburbs to the city center. I don't think it's good for much else.
And frlcb is correct, most of the stuff you want to see in Iceland is not in Reykjavik.
I think Iceland is a great place with kids - but I agree that alone, with no car, it would be not the best place to spend your time Go on to some of the other cities we talked about!

Yes, I'm getting that sense! I wanted to go to Iceland pre-baby last year, but you can't go in the Blue Lagoon while pregnant.
Anyway, the lead contenders right now are London, Amsterdam and Nice. Flights to all other places that interested me were either at ridiculous times (no 6 am or 10 pm flights for the kids!) or were not direct and had layovers in weird places that seemed to take me in the opposite direction.

I would do London or Amsterdam, unless you really want the beach
