My H and I went to PC back in 2011 and had a great time. This was our first AI experience and also our first "grown-up" trip with just the two of us. (We stayed at Catalonia Royal Bavaro.)
We have some friends who are traveling to PC in August for a 30th birthday celebration and have invited us along. They're staying at The Excellence (which, I know gets good reviews). I'm sure it will be a good time, and we've always wanted to do a friends trip like this, I'm just torn as to whether or not it's worth the money since we've been before. Pricing right now is looking to be about $3k, including airfare (about half of that is airfare alone, which seems a little nuts). I also kind of think AI's seem to be best when utilized during a stressful/hectic time since they involve a lot of relaxing/eating/drinking (unless you're willing to cough up the extra money for excursions). That being said, neither of us has anything too stressful going on in our lives at the moment. (But, on the other hand, I'm always down for a good beach trip.)
So, would you go back to PC? I realize that everything is relative, but I'm hoping some of you who have actually been more than once will chime in, too.
Sure, especially for a friend trip. I've been to Jamaica 5x in the past 10 years. We always stay somewhere different. DR wasn't my fav destination (we also stayed at the Catalonia) but I would like to go back someday

It depends. We've been once (and stayed at the Excellence, and loved it), and it was also our first and so far only AI experience. I feel very like you seem to - we'd love to go back there for another chill out vacation, but it's not somewhere I need to repeat every year.
How many friends are going? If it's a group, I'd be more inclined to go than if it's just one other couple.

Right now it's just one other couple. But, they are good friends of ours and should be easy to travel with since they're so laid back. We could probably invite some other friends but I feel like it should be a couple that they know as well, and they've pretty much already invited all of our mutual friends (at least, the ones that we would actually want to go).
Thanks for the insight, everyone. We are leaning towards going. I need to take a look at our finances to be sure that we can easily afford it, but I don't think it should be a problem. I'm not going to lie though, I'm having a hard time not looking up where else we could manage to go for that same amount. But, not having to plan anything would definitely be nice as well.
