BRENHAM (April 17, 2015) A Washington County veterinarian is at the center of a social media firestorm, has lost her job, and could face charges, after bragging about killing a cat with a bow and arrow.
Dr. Kristen Lindsey, DVM, posted a picture on her Facebook page of her holding an arrow that is sticking through the head of a dead cat.
The post reads “My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it's head! Vet of the year award ... Gladly accepted."
The post quickly went viral and prompted numerous calls to the Brenham Police Department and Washington County Animal Control.
Brenham police say the cat was shot in Austin County.
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office told KBTX-TV it is investigating.
Sheriff Jack Brandes says he sent deputies out to New Wehdem Road Friday morning where the incident occurred.
Lindsey worked for the Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham, but she was fired on Friday.
In the comment section of her post, she wrote “no I did not lose my job. Lol. Psshh. Like someone would get rid of me. I’m awesome!”
KBTX-TV earlier contacted the clinic to speak with Lindsey, but was told she is not available and that the clinic has no comment about the incident at this time.
The clinic’s website was getting so much traffic that it crashed.
Lindsey later removed her post and then pulled down her Facebook page.

That ANY vet would advocate killing feral cats as a reasonable way to control the feral population (as opposed to TSNR programs that really do work) is gross enough. To actually FOLLOW THROUGH with that and then to brag about it?! I may actually throw up. I'm not kidding. I feel horribly sick. What hope is there to educate the general population if a ducking VET is doing shit like this?!

As awful as it is that it was ANY cat, it actually was the cat of a neighboring elderly couple.
An actual veterinarian, who thinks to do something like this is disgusting. The fact that she would brag about it like people should be proud of her is even more disturbing.

OMG I can't even begin to imagine how angry I would be if some asshole neighbor shot my cat. Can we sic the AARP on her too?
This is heart breaking, disturbing and a blow to the profession. She is unlikely to lose her license over it though. Being a heartless jackass is not something that the practice acts cover. As the death did not occur due to negligence in a hospital setting it would be hard to make a board complaint stick. The texas baord is notorious lame about follow though even for egerious negligence. She will not be able to be employed in the small animal world but some large animal people might actually see this as funny. There is a thread on my professional forum and I am curious to see where it is goes.
Really depends on that states practice acts and what type of practice they are in.
I hope they fry her for this but so many states don't recognize "stray" cats with the same (even half-ass) protection as owned dogs.
But the kitty belonged to her elderly neighbors..
I totally agree with you. I think she should fry. I think this is aweful BUT, state veterinary boards are often "good old boys" in the best of circumstances. If her PLIT insurance is paid she will have legal representation to defend her in the fullest. If the cat did not have tags or a microchip they will claim feral. Many on the large animal side are avid hunters and will claim a stray cat is a detriment to the bird population or what the hell ever. She is an embarrassment to the profession.
This is horrific and I hope she is prosecuted. I don't have a ton of hope the prosecutor will do much. My dog was burned from a kennel dryer a few years ago at a groomers. He was left in there for hours- total neglect. I tried to pursue for animal cruelty but didn't get anywhere. It took several more animals dying before they would even investigate her grooming business. They also don't have much financial recourse. Pets are property in Tx, so you cannot sue for pain and suffering. And you can only sue for the "value" of the pet at the time of its death. It's ridiculous how terrible our animal laws are
I accidentally hovered over a partial headline earlier and got a picture preview. OMG. We had a big, mellow, feral tomcat who brooked no shit from racoons that looked just like that poor kitty.
And she has no remorse! She's so self-congratulatory!
BRENHAM – 14:32 p.m. Washington Animal Clinic received more than 500 phone calls Friday morning before they fired Kristen Lindsey, DVM. Shortly before Noon, the clinic put duct tape over her name on the sign. "Our goal now is to go on and try to fix our black eye and hope that people are reasonable and understand that those actions don't anyway portray what we're for here at Washington Animal Clinic," said Dr Bruce Buenger. "We put our heart and soul into this place." 12:50 p.m. True Blue Animal Rescue in Brenham says the cat that was killed was not feral. They say it was one of their foster cats. 12:00 p.m. The Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham has fired the veterinarian who bragged about killing a cat with a bow and arrow. 11:11 a.m. A Washington County veterinarian is at the center of a social media firestorm, and could face charges, after bragging about killing a cat with a bow and arrow. This is *exactly* the kind of girl I thought she'd be. I see she is on the equine side. She may have been fired from her job but she will be able to move and get a job. Gross.

Not that it makes it ok, but she I'm pretty sure she mainly works with equine so you're right.
I just cannot grasp how someone would get so much joy from taking the life of any living creature. Like, it actually hurts me to even think about it.

I can't even look at that photo. That poor kitty.
But this is what has always creeped me out about trophy hunting. The fact that there is utter joy in killing something. Watching it get hit and watching it die and then posing with the dead animal with a freaking Kool Aid grin on your face. It's sick. And doing this to a cat? What a piece of shit she is.
Is she a sociopath and/or narcissist? I don't mean this to be snarky. This is not normal behavior and her claims are not the claims of a well-adjusted human being.
