I know, I know, I'm 12 years late. H and I are binge watching it on HBO now and we're almost done with season four. Omg it's so good. And I think a bunch of bad shit is about to go down and I'll probably need to talk about it.

5thofjuly- I'm trying to do the same with GoT. I teach at a college with excellent architecture and fashion design departments. I just need a FT sponsor to help me get this thing going
That sounds amazing! I would absolutely take it! We have a weird mini-term (3 weeks) that gives us the opportunity to teach more experimental courses. That time slot gives us a lot of freedom.
I was just telling H that I think its a lot like GOT in that I can't let myself get attached to too many of the characters because you never know what's going to happen to them : (
5thofjuly that sounds awesome! I think season one is still my favorite, but I've spent a huge portion of season four pointing at the screen going "That's exactly what my class was like! That's exactly how dumb teacher training is!"

This is (in my mind) the best show ever on television. Season 1 was just terrific. I do find I can't do anything else when it's on, otherwise I miss something. So intricate and compelling.

I'm interviewing for a job in Baltimore and it inspired me to start re-watching earlier this week.
I'm really partial to season 2 for so many reasons. Seeing the other side of gentrification is difficult (my in-laws now live in the building they call "The Grainery" on the show). The neighborhood is really cute and it's the safest in the city, but it's lost a lot of its blue collar charm and authenticity.
Season 3 really nails it in terms of showing how we're all part of some system or another (juxtaposing that scene where Fruit is told his sales numbers are bad with the scene where the cops are being told their crime stats are bad stands out as one example). Bodie's hunt for Marlo at the behest of Stringer + Bunk's hunt for Dozerman's gun at the behest of Landsman.
The whole Hamsterdam thing is a bit far-fetched (in terms of really getting so many people to go along with it), but fascinating. I love that Kurt Schmoke plays the public health official (he's a former mayor of Baltimore who felt strongly that legalizing and regulating drugs would be the answer to many of Baltimore's problems).
