I saw it and sent it to my friend who's throwing a first birthday party in a couple weeks. Nothing surprises me any more when it comes to gift giving situations.
This is really tacky. While I get trying to limit the number of gifts from grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc., there is definitely a more appropriate way to address the excessive gifts.

These people sound so ungrateful! We do have an on-going Amazon registry for DD, but it's mainly for us. DH's parents use it too. I would never suggest people should only purchase items from a set list. Be happy that people care enough about your kid to buy him/her a gift at all!
So, it turns out my kids still prefer the box the toy came in. We bought a new lawnmower and the box it came in was immediately commandeered and turned into a fort.

On Christmas DS took all of the empty boxes from his toys and taped them together and colored them to make an angry bird auto bot. Then he olayed with it for 3 days while ignoring all his new toys

I do the bulk of the Christmas shopping on amazon. The bigger boxes I throw a bunch of markers in and the kids color the inside. They get a huge kick out of it.
