This was my feeling, too. I just didn't think John could do something like that.
I didn't either. I expected Danny to die somehow, but I thought it would be the kind of thing where he had committed some terrible act of violence, or was about to hurt some member of the family and John had no choice. I didn't expect him to be straight up murdered like that. Obviously Kevin isn't the only one with rage issues.
I still think it's the pressure of being perfect. And probably the rage at himself for doing nothing when he knew better....and the rage at his father for making him lie.

Also poor Marco. He's the only genuinely good person on this whole show. Well maybe Chelsea too. He deserves better than Meg anyway.
Let's talk about Chelsea. I find her a little on the tragic side. She knew what she was doing when she went to John. Danny had already told her.
I will say I liked watching the relationship between Chelsea and Danny form. She had clearly held a torch for a long time.
.....also now that I am thinking about Chelsea... what about when she slept with Kevin. Do you think that was a setup that could have been orchestrated between Danny and her? Gave Danny another "thing" against Kevin?

I think you're right. At that moment, the entire lifetime of anger and guilt and frustration just all came flooding out. It obviously wasn't premeditated - I don't think he intended to kill him at all, he just couldn't control himself, especially after Danny just laughed at him when he hit him with the log.
It's possible, toledo. I may be basing this on too many past Chloe Sevigny characters, but I just think that there is something more to her role in all this.

Another great actor - she is so good as Chelsea. That scene where he asks to borrow her car, her facial expressions said so much. She obviously has some bad luck (and/or bad choices) with men.
I still can't quite figure out how the whole thing with Kevin happened. Do you think she orchestrated it herself? I'm not sure why she would, except to get back at him after he was such an asshole to her that night she tried to help him. I don't think she is that scheming of a person to intentionally try to pit him against his brother.
Speaking of that triangle, OMG that scene with Danny and Kevin in the kitchen. Holy creepballs....

YES!!! Because Danny was a serious creeper. Remember the conversation in one of the first episodes with Diana (that's John's wife, right?) about the woman who wanted to get beaten when they had sex? He totally got off on creeping her the fuck out.

SO so creepy. Even the scene with him and Jane on the boat....there wasn't anything overtly wrong with it, and if you had stuck Kevin in there doing the exact same things, it would have been totally innocent. But oh man my skin was crawling that whole scene.

Just finished it this morning. I've never had a show leave me with such an ominous feeling after each episode. Danny had to die but I was surprised in how it went down. He was soooooooooooo creepy. He always made my skin crawl, especially around Jane.
I am really curious what Potts found out. Also curious who the Rayburn House employee that saw Kevin and John at Danny's apartment was.
I think John expected the body to turn up since he dressed Danny in the suit. Since it played out how he expected, save for Danny's child showing up, obviously something went wrong that we'll find out next season.
I really just want Meg and Marco to be together because then I get to see him more.
I didn't think the how of Danny's death would have gone that way. Obviously John just snapped after years of pressure and Danny's BS but I didn't think he had it in him, even after killing the guy in the hotel room with the conch.
I'll have to rewatch FNL to get more KC before next March.
What? Danny killed the guy with the conch, not John.
Do we know for sure though? It seemed as if it could have been either Danny or John. It seemed as if John hit him in the head with the conch as he was going to shoot Danny, thus the stray bullet.

That was the son. You could tell by the necklace he was wearing. They showed it again when he showed up at John's during the family dinner, last scene.

That was such an odd conversation, especially so early in the season. But it was great foreshadowing/scene set-up. It really made me uncomfortable.

No, it was definitely Danny. John drove away and chose to let Danny get killed. That's why Danny said that thing about how he knew Chelsea had told him where he was staying and he 'wanted to see what he would do.' He knew the guy was coming for him, and he was testing John to see if he would try to save him, which he didn't.
ETA: that's also why he was floored when he came down and saw Danny sitting at the table. And why Danny then gave him his signature creepy-evil look.

Ok good. Thank you for the clarification. This makes more sense and gives John more points in the good-guy column. I was sitting here thinking John had already killed the guy, Danny knew it, hence the creepy-evil look at the table.
