Yeah, no, I'm calling extreme bullshit on your clarification here. Bc this leave would have run concurrently with her maternity leave, per NJ state law.
Nope you're so wrong
NJ family leave insurance can be taken anytime in the first twelve months.
Consecutively or intermittently
You can take a week here and there.
Kid is probably 9-10 months
Coworker has been back at work, hence out conversation at work about not putting pics on Facebook
Umm ... what?! Because up until now it was a baby under six weeks old. I'm not sure if you can math, but six weeks is very different from six, seven, eight, etc. months. You're adding information to make your judging seem OK.
Did you miss the part that she, you know, actually had a baby? Jesus Christ, she didn't make up a pregnancy or birth to fake a vacation, she actually had a baby. If she felt well to go on a vacation shortly after the birth, well good for her and her lady-bits. This is weird.
Um, are you okay? Maybe I should have included a trigger warning
Yes, a trigger warning stating- Nikki, don't read, as this is the fucking stupidest 'conversation' ever would have been VERY nice. I will never get back these 10 minutes of my life. Thanks for your consideration.
I'm sure even "I'm not rich and I imprison aid workers who help Ebola-ravaged Africa" Chris Christie would not give one single fuck about some lady using her super special New Jersey baby insurance/fund/dispensation to take a vacation. He's too busy purposefully screwing up bridge traffic to bother. Trust and believe.
I hate the evolution of these kinds of threads. It's always the same.
There was a poster almost flamed for questioning leaving a newborn for ten days. That's just ridiculous. Aside from PP issues, I don't think there's any good reason to be apart from your infant for that length of time.

Good for you.
That has nothing to do with what someone else thinks or what they are obligated to do with their leave time.

You're right? I would still side eye someone who left their newborn for ten days.

Fail. I posted my opinion based on the impression that both parents were taking off for 10 days when baby was less than 6 weeks old.

I finally read the fact sheet about this. Why doesn't everybody take this??? I would! And I'd Sandals the heck out of that 6 weeks!
(Oh, and I did see that they said that newborn can mean anytime in the first 12 months, so I'm keeping my day job and not going into PI work anytime soon.)

How's the bird autopsy going?
Oh, you have jokes about dead animals! Nice.
I posted an update. I can't imagine how you missed it.
Ah yes. It's unnatural and WEIRD for a woman to want to leave her newborn. Of course.
For ten days? Come on, Tamb. If we're talking about a newborn--not a months-old baby--you can't tell me that would be in the baby's best interest. Especially when forming an attachment is so critical.

It's a human, not a duckling. It doesn't need to imprint. As long as the baby is being cared for by someone capable, it'll be fine.

It's ten days in this thread. In another thread it might be 10 hours. You're right, there is always someone who gets flamed for insinuating the mother in question is not mom enough.
Frankly, I'm surprised mothers even birth their children. If you can't guarantee that you'll be their sole source of everything 24/7, you may as well just gestate forever. It's safer that way. Plus, they're physically attached by umbilical cord so no worries on that front.
