DS has wall decals similar to yours. (age 8) DD age 5 also has wall decals - butterflies. DD age 10 has a small shelf for books anchored to the wall. I may see if I can get pics in a bit. She also has my little pony and ladybug decals in random places that she chose.

A big tacky chandelier vinyl decal and pink glitter M. Above the Mia's bed. Natalie has a painting of goldie locks and the three bears. My Grandma bought it for her.
I think his name would look cute! Maybe just that and a small pic of a car?
I AW any chance I get. Pdq, obvs, as we all know that above the bed decor is the #1 kidnapping tool. we have these above the boys beds (other guy has a family name but it's just this
And this for the girl
You now have 10.5 minutes before your children go missing*
We have those wooden letters like you can get at Michael's and have "oh the places you'll go" above his bed. I covered them in different scrap book paper that had travel themes - old looking map, vehicles, post cards, etc.
charley - where did you get that fire truck picture/decal? DS is also obsessed with all things fire and police, I think I could use that in our playroom.
I've seen some black and white (or that antique brown and cream) pictures of trains that might look good above the bed to contrast the colored decals on the other wall. And I think I would try and find something that is wider (because I'm dumb, like this (<----- ----->).

*Just to make sure - total sarcasm
Etsy seller New Wave Signs! I have had great luck with decals from etsy sellers. They had a big tree with owls in it before the firetruck obsession!
Do you have the Melissa and Doug fire and police costumes? They love them so much.
We don't have the Melissa and Doug costumes but we do have a couple police and fire costumes. H is a deputy so DS really like to dress up with him when he's getting ready for work. DS also got the big fire truck puzzle last year or the year before and he loves doing it.

We just recently bunked his bed, so there's not a ton of wall space anymore by his bed (top bunk). He also has a window there. We used to have a collage of 8 framed postcards on the yellow and white wall and then these two pics. One is graphic art of his name and the other is a painting on wood from El Salvador from good friends.

Both are still in cribs, and I can't PIP bc they're asleep. Connor has dark wooden block letters with his initials. Cameron has 3 framed 8x10 prints, one is a decorative C with a polka dot background, and the other two are...I can't remember right now lol. They were from etsy.
i mean, maybe i should get a decal then. but i dont know what would work well without clashing or being WAY too busy along with the one i'm already getting for the other wall.
maybe i'm overthinking this.
growing up, i had a giant stuffed/kinda flat rainbow & cloud hanging up above my bed...like a flat plushie, i guess. because earthquakes. i know they have animals like out there...bet they have cars or surfboards or waves or something, too.
if you hang framed pics properly, they should be ok in all but the biggest earthquakes.
LOL
this is a fug example, but the idea of bunting or flat-ish mobile could work. i also understand you aren't crafty, but i'm sure there's a shitton on etsy.
DS has a nautical themed room. We bought an oar, painted it navy and stenciled his name on it. He's napping right now, so no picture but I'll try to post one later.
overpriced, but check out land of nod's decor section. flat throw pillows that could be hung, paper mache animal heads, etc. they also have what they called "banners"--prints on canvas with grommets. i like this one, although it doesn't match your theme.
Sofia's is the only one with something above her bed. Theo had like tugboat stickers and stuff but they ripped them off.
And idk. She saw me taking a picture and decided she needed to be involved. Lol. Also, she stuck stickers on the wall. That's not food/boogers/whatever other gross stuff kids stick to walls.

I have this big star and fairy decal scene thing above n's bed. I love it, and since each star is individually applied, it's never ever coming down.
Poor e, 2nd child, has nothing, except for the extra princess decals she swiped from n's closet, and applied herself one afternoon when she was upstairs and quiet, "resting." And her most recent school art, also self hung. BUT, in my defense, I think we are going to rearrange her room soon, and actually put things on the walls.
shopping for one now, just a plain wood one, right? it's a small room and a big bed, wdyt?
I like keeping it simple for kid furniture, so that sounds good to me. We have the malm bed in dark espresso, which is just a plain wood headboard. I think it "finishes" the bed, but it's not overly fussy either.

upholstered headboards are nice to lean against to read in bed. i think i saw some in fun but simple fabrics on some kid's furniture sites. but you guys know how much i know about kids.
