I like keeping it simple for kid furniture, so that sounds good to me. We have the malm bed in dark espresso, which is just a plain wood headboard. I think it "finishes" the bed, but it's not overly fussy either.
upholstered headboards are nice to lean against to read in bed. i think i saw some in fun but simple fabrics on some kid's furniture sites. but you guys know how much i know about kids.

Nothing. We learned our lesson with the trains near the house. It would rattle everything off the walls and out of the closets. DD had a metal sign fall on her at 3. II've never hung anything above her bed since then.
We painted the red stripe and box around his room. The letter and his name are a decal. He has the PB speedboat bed, so it has a nautical sort of feel.
I had several Disney movie prints I bought when I was in high school--Disney store was only a few years old. I framed them and put half in Abby's room and half in Caleb's room.
Nothing, because of earthquakes. Both beds have headboards, but I guess in theory there's still a lot of space for a decal or something. But we're lazy.
i mean, maybe i should get a decal then. but i dont know what would work well without clashing or being WAY too busy along with the one i'm already getting for the other wall.
maybe i'm overthinking this.
Maybe you could get a headboard for his bed instead so it's not just a blank wall?
