I don't really even care that much about this. But I am seriously annoyed that the media is making it seem like poor Target was just so overwhelmed with these crazy women! Who knew women would go soooo crazy for clothes? Oh, those broads....
It is BS that the media is portraying it this way. I personally am disappointed that I didn't get a dress or a tank since I don't normally fit into LP. But I generally boycott Target after some personal asshattery with them (I ordered stuff online, the items came but they were not the items I ordered. It took FOREVER - multiple phone calls and hours and hours) to get them to agree to give me a refund and they were unable to help me in store because I didn't have a receipt for the items I was returning).
I'm convinced a good portion is going to end up back in Target stores. People think they're going to be able to unload it on ebay, but I will be surprised if a majority can. The price point of regular LP doesn't support that. Maybe it will for the plus stuff that LP doesn't usually make, but for the rest? I will be surprised if it sells for a profit on ebay.
I mean 30,000 ebay listings? Come on.
There are people still trying to unload NWT Missoni for Target items. Cautionary tale, resellers, cautionary tale.
Aside from that, I don't know why any of this is a surprise to anyone. Target's website has always been nothing but dreadful, even on a normal day. The designer collaborations are always going to be limited stock in order to drive up buzz. There are always going to be shitty people who buy just to resell. It's been the same drill for almost a decade.
Market influences play a huge role. I live in a suburb of LA, and I've always been able to pick up something from Target's designer collaborations without waiting for the store opening and without any crazy crowds. And it's not because people know they can get regular LP for not much more. It's because the price point for the designer stuff is still too high for a lot of shoppers in relation to what they expect at Target.

I'm not really awake yet but what? Surely you know other designers make clothes in equally obnoxiously bright patterns that you could fit, right? Target owes you clothes because LP is mean to you?

I didn't say target owes me clothes. I said I was personally disappointed I didn't get a dress or a tank. Personally disappointed as in oh that sucks, shrug. moving on. it just reinforced my decision to keep on with my target boycott.
Lots of designers are "mean" (and I'm using quotes because its your word, not mine) to the fatties. I'm bummed I can't wear lots of classic prep wear like ribbon belts from vineyard vines. it is what it is. I move on. Personally I have loved Lilly for many years and have always been bummed I didn't fit in the clothes. I was excited for the line because it was my chance to get a dress. Do I think target botched the rollout - yes. Did I rant and rave about it on social media? No. I just keep posting about it here because others keep starting posts and I like to post.
FYI from S&B: "So Saks is having F&F right now. 30% off + 8% cash back with ebates. People could order the REAL Lilly for nearly the price people are charging for Target Lilly."
Where the hell then is Paula Deen getting her clothes if Lilly Pulitzer is the only place one can purchase incredibly loud, ill fitting Southern Ladies Who Lunch shift dresses?
I should ask my church ladies. I bet they know. That's all some of them wear.
Ok, I do get being disappointed if this is the one chance you might have to wear a certain designer. Even if you can get similar elsewhere, there's just something about buying name brand once in your life.

I just need to know who are these fools who are buying the Target LP stuff at regular LP prices on ebay? Do they not understand that they could just buy the real thing? Its like Idiocracy.
To be honest, that one piece jumper that's floating around in the this thread is hideous also.
Oh and I found this today on Zulily. This is the designer I meant. in Zulilly it's "designer" Jelly The Pug (WTF) If you love your child why would you make her wear this?
Matilda Jane hate! How dare you??? Besides its not really all bell bottoms and bell sleeved tops. I should make Sass do a fashion show because we don't buy any of that.

I know people who dress their kids like this. They all live in the south. I don't think this is a "thing" anywhere else.

I love the style, where we live it's a popular brand.

This poor child looks like something from the Isle of Misfit Toys.
There are currently 30,245 ebay listings for Target Lilly Pulitzer, so I don't think this is an incorrect assumption.
ETA: there are 8,326 sold listings as well.
Out of how many people that went to Target yesterday? I would also imagine that some of those are just people who got the stuff for themselves, then saw what was happening on ebay and went to make a quick buck.
Ebay is pretty much a web of lies. You can look at the numbers, but they don't really mean anything.
Well, and like I said, people were grabbing or ordering 2 sizes of what they wanted, fully intending to return whatever size didn't work out. But if you can double or triple your money on ebay, why return it? And if you can't sell it on ebay, well... then return it 2 weeks from now, at the return deadline. The ebay trade will decline sharply after the drop-dead return date on Lilly items.

This is "real" Lilly:
This is Target Lilly:
Most of it looks normal!
Newp. Maybe it's the pastel colors. It just looks like a bad reincarnation of laura ashley. Blech. BUT - I know it's purely personal and that I could be equally called out for my love and adoration of all-things-Boden. Maybe LP patterns aren't loud ENOUGH for me
