I feel you, RoxMonster. That's where PS is so different for me. When I was a 4/6/8, I'd just look for pants on my size. Maybe I'd like the cut or maybe I wouldn't. Still, I'd never get my size and have the cut be SO drastically off. It's like they think PS women are just wide lumps, straight up and down.
This is off-topic, but won't the plus size clothing, if returned, end up on display in the stores? All of the online-only stuff does if it is returned, yes? So hopefully when some of the stuff is inevitably returned, people will have a chance to try it on and see it in person prior to purchasing.
The whole eBay thing still baffles me, though. I STILL want the Missoni mixing bowls and the last time I checked for them on eBay, they were still WAYYYYYYY marked up from the Target retail...and the collaboration was like 4 years ago!
Why return when you can sell on ebay for 4x the price?
I'm hoping the eBay frenzy is short-lived. But I'm probably being naive.
You really think it's no more difficult to find a cute dress in a size 18 than a size 4? Bless your heart.
I will have to let my size 20W mother know she's just not trying hard enough. I really didn't get it until I went with her to try and find a MOB gown. we grabbed coffee and walked our butts to the five-story Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue only to be told they didn't carry a single floor-length evening gown in her size to try on. we could order them online though! $1,100 later and she got to try four different dresses on. (wilted)
Ugh. The comments about plus size girls just looking elsewhere is pissing me off.
It can be hard to find stuff you like. I actually like the fun, bright, happy prints of LP. I might actually buy dresses from them occasionally if they carried my size. Me not buying a dress I like isn't going to make a damn bit of difference to either target or LP.
Maybe the popularity of the plus size stuff will give LP a heads up that there is a market there.
I'm seriously pissed for you that you didn't get the LP you want. Like, I'd be fucking pissed if I was excited about something (especially after reading the hype) and being fucked over this way. But you are honestly one of the prettiest people I have ever seen and I covet your style! You know this, lol :-) I think you should design your own line, lol.
Do you know that Loft and Ann Taylor no longer carry XL dresses in stores? But have tons of XSs on the racks. They don't want my kind shopping in the store apparently.
The manager of my Loft store is so pissed because she said she would always sell all of her XL dresses.

Truth.
I spent the whole day shopping a couple months ago (girls weekend!) with one of my BFFs, who happens to be a size 18. She loves well tailored, well made clothes, generally looks like a million bucks, and is WAY more fashionable than I am. However, it was an eye opening experience to see how limited she is in her selection. I'd get to go into the Nordstrom dressing room with literally dozens of items. She'd have maybe 6. And that's not looking for something event specific. That's jeans, cute button-downs, tailored jackets, skirts, casual dresses, ANYTHING. She was literally looking for ANY clothes to wear. There's just nothing in store. She has better luck at Talbots, but 1) that's her go-to for professional wardrobe, and doesn't exactly scream cool, easy-going 30-something, and 2) not all Talbots stores carry plus sizes, and 3) it's expensive as hell. Her main one in Chicago, FUCKING DOWNTOWN CHICAGO by Michigan Ave, doesn't carry much, if anything, for her at all. She gets the whole "we don't have that in store, but you can order it and try it on at home! And yay, free shipping!" Not helpful.
So yeah. Shopping as a mainstream size 12 =/= shopping as a plus size.
And all I have to add to the LP mess is that I'm glad I didn't try to go to Target yesterday, as I was blissfully unaware of the madness taking place. That would have put me into a straight up rage, because I have no patience for that kind of shopping. I go to Target to accidentally spend $100, not fight my way through hoards of people just to get my unnecessary table decor and nail polish.
