I have 2 court dates coming up: child support and custody. what should I wear? I'm going to have to go shopping because my work wardrobe is very casual and I don't think a lace dress would be appropriate! I've never been to court before.
suit? Skirt and cardigan? No pants please. Help me!
I go to court A LOT for work. Whenever I have court, I always wear dark dress pants, flats (I can't wear heels), and usually a dressy top. I usually wear a sweater/cardigan. I try to dress in layers because I don't know if it's going to be hot as hell, or freezing cold! Good luck on your hearings!

I've been to court a ton (thanks xh), I wear black pants, flats and a dressier top. 99% of the people in the court in my county are not dressed nicely at all.

Just don't wear anything too sexy or jeans and a t-shirt and you will be fine. Anything you would wear to church is fine. Only attorneys are required to wear suits. I tend to tell my clients "business casual" or "church attire."

I'm always shocked about how people look in court. Some even wear pajama pants.

Me too.
And criminal court is across the hall, those people dress even worse!

I have witnessed someone wear this to criminal court
No
Unfortunately, yes. I had to do a double take. I even tried to rationalize it by saying, "well it's summer...still no" or "well we live in a beach town... no no and no"
I wouldn't even wear that as a bathing suit cover up, much less to court!

Church attire. With your type of case, you don't want to wear anything trendy or very high end. Nothing higher than a kitten heel. Wear natural looking makeup and nude nail polish (if any). Just keep in mind that you are wanting to look wholesome and trustworthy.
