Hi, I'm new here! Feel free to AMA.
We've finally started the process of painting the (all camel tan) walls in our house, and have realized that the previous owners painted most of the closets this lovely color as well. Note: it's not a pretty neutral, it's more of an in-your-face neutral. Kind of similar to this color:
This brings me to my current question, if your closets were this color, would you re-paint them to match the new colors of the rooms (mostly gray/greige), or white, or not paint them at all? Painting closets that we hardly ever see (master closets are white) seems like a huge waste of time, but if we ever sell, I feel like they should probably match, or at least be white. Thoughts?
If they are well lit or open to the room, I would go with the room color, (gray/greige) but if they are walk in closets, I might go with white or a lighter version of the room color.
I wouldn't leave them the tan because I like to be able to gauge colors and choose outfits right there, and tan will change everything in a not good way. We had a color that was not flattering and we didn't love it in a closet (who cares? It's just a closet, right?), and it was awful. The closet was always a mess because we hated going in there, and things that looked like a match in there didn't match in the light of day.
Also, if the rooms were not newly painted prior to me buying the house, I would want to get rid of former owner scuffs and stuff. I kind of have a thing about starting with a clean slate and wiping out all signs of other people...scuffs, dirt or just weird colors.
