I have shared with coworkers, and I will have to in the future I'm sure. I mean, of course I would rather have my own room, but I work for a school so it is what it is. I pretty much only get my own room if I'm the only woman on the trip. I'm LOLing at the HORRIFIED reactions to the idea of having to share a room. Does it suck? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No.
There are only a couple of co-workers ever I would have felt comfortable doing this with, but we get the choice. Either room up or find rooms under a certain price point and get your own room. You can also cover the difference or pay for your own room outright if you need pricier accommodations. I remember having to share a hotel room in college with my advisor because of budget cuts and she got to hear me puke all night with food poisoning before we boarded a plane the next morning.
It wasn't so bad at the Big 4 training - like summer camp with alcohol, but I didn't realize even Managers and Partners had to share. I always thought Partners got to bring their spouses to retreats so that doesn't make sense they'd have to share. Of course on regular business trips they never asked you to share. At least out of my office.
At one senior level training my friend got paired up with a girl from another office. The girl got so drunk that she could not control her bodily functions and made a big mess in the room. My friend woke up and was so grossed out she went and slept in the gym of the resort. When the girl came to she tried to blame it on my friend! Luckily my friend had a stellar reputation so no one believed the girl, but still! You meet all kinds.
WHen I used to travel for work, I luckily worked for a company where the policy was that we DIDN'T have to share rooms. Even when I started traveling a fair amount with someone who was a good friend, we're both introverts and both REALLY enjoyed going off to our separate rooms at the end of the night. We really needed our downtime after a long day of being in front of people!
Nope. Not a chance. I once worked for someone who insisted we share a (driving distanc) conference or be reimbursed to drive back and forth. I took the reimbursement for the three round trips and got my own room. I don't share space well with others.
We frequently have to and don't have a choice. I hate it, but it's not my call. I actually had a coworker travel with me last week and she was sad when I booked separate rooms for us (because there was availability.) I couldn't believe she WANTED to share a room. Also, no.
this might be a really dumb comment, but how can a company who presumably protects their staff from things like sexual harassment force those same staff members to share beds with their coworkers?
this seems incongruent to me.
That's what I'm wondering. It sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
