What are you primarily using the machine for? Paper, vinyl, stuff like that? I do not have the Explore, but have toyed around with the idea of getting one, until I played with their software. I'm really not a fan of it at all. Make the cut is still the best software I've used and silhouette studio designer edition comes in at a close second. I currently have the Cameo, Expression and the Sizzix Eclips. I do use the Cameo most often because I do a lot of print and cuts, but if its anything heavier than medium weight I use the Eclips. Other machines you can consider are KNK Zing, Pazzles Vue, or the Bosskut Gazelle. Jin (under a cherry tree blog) reviewed some machines here underacherrytree.blogspot.com/p/reviews-of-electronic-cutters.html. And Kay (cleversomeday blog) has thoughts about the cameo vs. the explore: cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2014/12/02/whichisright/
I'm using the most up to date version of Studio (I don't know which one bc I'm not home right now). I think I started having the most trouble since the last update to be honest.
I haven't tried using SCAL w the Silhouette yet. I didn't even think to do that!
95% of what I cut is paper. I do print & cut a ton. I need to do more research on what my options are. Thanks for the links!
Yeah, I wondered- I'm still hanging onto 2.8.x, there have been so many problems reported in 3+. Do try SCAL, if you can, and if that helps, try rolling back Studio.
MTC and SCAL are both 3rd party SVG creators (that have evolved to do much more)- of course they can export SVGs.
@natariru, you should really go ahead and DL Design Space if you really are considering an Explore- that'll probably change your mind pretty fast- ha! There are definitely other cutters to poke through ahead of it. I hope it's just a software issue that can be tamed, though!
The basic things in MTC are pretty darn intuitive, I don't think you'll have problems getting around. The forums/webcasts are great if you have specific questions. Just be careful to check dates on things, MTC has come a long way in 5 years and the features have really changed a lot!
