It's a huge space-- I think it took them 20 man hours to tape and paint the whole thing. It'll be even more now, since they've already put in more trim and our backsplash since then. Close to $1k, I imagine.
I'll post a pic tonight.
Ouch, that hurts.
But I've HATED my living room paint since June 2012 and I so wish we had just changed the paint back then. I swear at least once a day I think "I hate this color."
It does. I mean, we could do it ourselves, but we are not good painters. I'd rather have a professional job of a color I don't love, than a crappy job of a color I do. And we don't have the money to pay them to redo it.
mrs.jacinthe, thanks! I will post pics tonight and will likely go ahead and order the blue rug. I hadn't considered blue curtains, but maybe I'll buy a panel of blue and a panel of white and see which ones work better.
fezzik, since repainting really isn't an option, I'm hoping that furniture and decor will make it better!
Also, a small update. We were going to have a blue tile strip inlayed in the backsplash (white subway), but I called DH and the contractor and told him no more blue. It would have looked great with a true gray, but it's not in the same color family as the walls, and it would have looked even worse. So I'm feeling a little better now.

These are both good ways to look at it. And if it really never grows on you, you can always have it repainted down the road when you have the money again.
I've had the hardest time with grey. One time I painted our living room the exact color someone on the Nest had and it was gorgeous in the photos. People were always asking what color her living room was. In her photos it looked like the perfect grey-beige. In my living room it looked purpley-grey. I did end up tolerating it but I was never thrilled with it.
Now I usually search colors on the forum Garden Web. People there are good at telling you what kinds of undertones a paint has.
I'm sorry. I'll bet you'll like it more once the room is all put together. Our living room did look 100 times better after it was furnished.

The same thing happened with our master bedroom. I picked out what I thought was a grey color but on the walls it looked really blue. I tried to pair it with grey accents and curtains but they clashed. I ended up with navy blue curtains and blue/silver accents. Now, I love it.
Hope it grows on you and you find some decor that brings out the tone you were looking for!
I like it. It does look to have blue undertones in it in these pics. I know that's not what you had envisioned, but maybe you can kind of build around it & make it look intentional. I don't think re-painting it another gray will fix it, as you've got the gray cabinets and gray/silver on the appliances.
I like it too. I don't know how representative the photos are, but here it kind of just looks like a cool, silvery gray. Hopefully it will grow on you.
Are the two grays (cabinets and wall) from the same paint card, or different ones?
Try the white curtains once you get the white subway tile up, and then bring in a stronger accent color - green, orange, yellow. I think keeping to blue, blue/gray, and gray everywhere is going to exacerbate the blue undertones of the paint. FWIW, I think the color looks great, and the poster upthread is correct - if your paint is too gray it's going to blend too much with the cabinets.
It's nice. How do you hate something that neutral? You need better problems!
I know! I was talking to my boss about all of this today and I told him that I realize this a major first world problem.
Thanks everyone. I actually liked it a lot more when I came home today. It does look really nice with the cabinets. I thought it would look lighter (and grader, lol), but I think the white tile will look awesome.

Totally different. The cabinets are just ikea gray.
We just painted our living room loft space gray from Behr and it came out looking blue. I hated it at first, but now that all of our furniture is back in I'm loving it. I say give it some time. I'm sorry it turned out differently than you wanted it!

I think it looks bluish compared with the cabinets, but any grey with a slight undertone would. Those cabinets have a strong undertone of their own (not blue. Maybe brownish?) However, in the last pic, compared with the trim, I think it just looks grey.
Get the white curtains (and the blue rug, if you love it) and you'll be fine.
I like it too. I know what's it like to have a "holy shit what did I do?" moment but I hope it grows on you. Maybe with the right decor? I say live with it for a few months and then decide. Nice kitchen!
