So with this move we are determined to unbox all our good/party dishes that have been packed for 2 years. We have wine glasses, tons of cocktail dishes, nice napkins, funky glasses, double walled bodum glass coffee and espresso glasses, cool glass pitchers, etc. We don't want to spend a ton on a buffet or anything because in the design for the new house, this storage would be built-in. But we need something for the dining area wall. (4 bookcases shown now.) I have no good photos of that entire wall, but here is the corner:
I was thinking, what if we did a couple of long floating ikea shelves high up (like I'd need a step stool to reach). I know things would get dusty, but I already use to rinse everything when taking it out of our old buffet. This building is really solid, so I'm not worried about stuff falling off. Most of our stuff is white or glass, so I think it would look nice.
BUT DH pointed out that we have a nice wood box of serving silverware from MIL. (Its NMS, but very handy because it is a full set of any utensil you'd ever want.) It's really heavy and we would not want to go on a floating shelf in the air. So for all our heavy stuff, I thought we could get a buffet off craigslist? Our use an "industrial" style shelf we have? Or find a cool bar cart? $95 close to us:
Whatever we do have to be 2yo-proof, so no putting the glass on shelves she can climb or push a chair up to. (which she FOR SURE will do). Should we just do floating shelves? Would be pretty cheap! $20 each shelf?
My DH wants to hang his stencil art on that wall too. I'll PIP that from my phone.
I love the bar cart. Especially if it works with the existing wood tones. The open shelving is another good solution unless you think the kids will throw things in the living/dining/kitchen room.

Cute loft. I think if you don't want DD to be able to reach/climb to the glassware and you need to work around a large art piece, that I'd go with floating shelves... maybe not even uniform in height/horizontal alignment like these:
Funny, I was suggesting random orientation at the same time.
I like the top one better for the random orientation b/c it's more pleasing to the eye. Also b/c it would be hard to get anything down from the second configuration.
