I was wondering if you fine folks can help me decide what to do.
I write a parody blog about antivax "crunchy" moms and fundamentalists. Recently Megan Heimer (who I've parodied several times) emailed me a picture of a cease and desist that she allegedly mailed to me, along with a bunch of pics of things she dug up about me on the Internet-- the irony here is that she's claiming that I'm the one doing the stalking.
Anyway, I feel kind of bad because I think I've caused her to have some kind of meltdown, her email was totally erratic, she accused me of having several fake social media profiles impersonating her, she said something really weird about how I use GBCN to impersonate her and that she's had all of my accounts here closed (huh?) and a slew of other bizarro stuff, it was some serious Joan Crawford shit
Here's my delima -- I kind of want to not push her buttons because it really looks like she's on the edge of something nasty, but then again, if I push her buttons so bad that she actually sues me, it would make for great publicity for my blog. I know the chances of her actually suing me are slim, but if she did it would be magical. I have more than one lawyer in my family, so she really could only help me if she sued me.
What would you guys do?
I'm pretty sure her erratic behavior predates your blog.

Why are you asking us and not your lawyer friends?
Because I know she doesn't have a case against me, I'm just wondering if it would be shitty of me to push her buttons just for the publicity opportunity
Probably, but there's no such thing as bad publicity, right? Honestly, do what you want.
Seriously. If you're that worried about legal repercussions, then you need to retain the services of a lawyer, not ask a bunch of us who hate Megan Heimer (who spreads lies and misinformation and harms the public.)

I would KOKO, I think. Parody is legitimate art, and Megan Heimer spreads misinformation as a public figure-- she has gone out of her way to make herself a public figure. You have freedom with a public figure, and she has put herself out there. She would have a hard time proving you were legitimately being libelous.
Look into libel laws for parody/satire.
eta: this is not legal advice. This is advice as an artist.

She is a terrible person, but yes, I think it would be shitty. She is on the edge of something and she might skinsuit you if you go futher.
So no, I would not push her buttons further if I were you. Plus I think it's mean, and aren't you better than that? I mean yes, Megan Heimer spreads lies and misinformation, but I wouldn't poke the crazy anymore.
Poke her. Don't poke her. *shrug* If you want to go down that road, just know what you're getting in to. She doesn't seem stable and she has a lot of time on her hands. Good luck!

I dunno, she might still be busy correcting that infographic of hers.

I'm not worried about legal repercussions, I haven't done anything wrong, even if I had been spreading lies about her, defamation suits are impossible to win
I guess I'm just asking because I secretly want to poke the bear and I'm just looking for encouragement

LOL this is probably the wrong group to ask...
I mean, I'm not *encouraging* it, but I'm not *discouraging* it either....

I'm pretty bored with Megan Heimer. At this point, she's faded into the background of wackadoodles trying to out-yelp each other for confirmation that their existence is relevant.

I vote poke. I mean, I am pro-vaccinations, so the needle always wins. Plus, I guarantee you'll get more clicks. Guarantee it.
